High drama against Mayor Kavitha by opposition during MCC meeting

Mangaluru: The opposition was involved in a high drama against Mayor Kavitha Sanil during the MCC council meeting here on October 31.

Recently the Mayor’s daughter was chased by the building watchman’s wife Kamala at 9:00 pm. On October 26, Mayor Kavitha Sanil came to know about the incident and went to ask the watchman’s wife about it. But the opposition has made it a big issue after meeting Kamala the watchman’s wife.

On October 31 during the council meeting, the opposition protested against the Mayor. There was a commotion between the corporators from the ruling and opposition.

When Mayor Kavitha Sanil along with Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh and MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir started the Council meeting opposition leader and former Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu said, “The honourable Mayor to promote Karate wanted to organize a Karate tournament in Mangaluru. The Karate tournament should have been inaugurated in a public place but the Mayor inaugurated it in her own building by assaulting a poor woman for which the opposition want clarification.”

Corporator Roopa D Bangera said, “The Mayor should resign for assaulting a poor woman. We had gone to help the poor watchman’s wife who was assaulted by the Mayor.”

Later all the BJP corporators staged a dharna demanding the resignation of Mayor Kavitha Sanil.

The congress corporators said that the council meeting is to discuss development issues and not the personal issues. The BJP corporators should concentrate on the development of their own wards instead of involving in others personal matters.

When Mayor requested the BJP corporators to occupy their seats and give her five minutes to clarify on the alleged assault of the watchman wife, the BJP corporators shouted slogans against the Mayor.

Mayor said, “Before becoming a Mayor I am a mother of 2 children. If the opposition corporators will allow me to speak I will clarify the issue. I believe in Goddess Kateleshwari and I will leave everything to her. Let Goddess Kateleshwari do justice. The BJP corporators are not ready to listen to what really happened, to hide their mistake they are shouting slogans against me and screaming in the council.”

The opposition members did not allow the Mayor to clarify the issue and demanded her resignation. The Mayor finally adjourned the council meeting.
