Hindu Mahasabha Wants ‘FLOODING CIRCLE’ near KSRTC Bus-Stand named ‘VEER SAVARKAR’

  • Akila Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM)-Karnataka Unit Wants Circle near KSRTC Busstand, Bejai, Mangaluru named ‘Veer Savarkar’ aka Swatantraya Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, an Indian independence activist, poet, writer, and politician who formulated the Hindu nationalist philosophy of Hindutva- and was also a leading figure in the Hindu Mahasabha. But let MCC fix the Circle which is ALWAYS FLOODED during monsoon FIRST, before Creating and Naming the Circle after Veer Savarkar!

Mangaluru: Following close on their heels after Biruvar Kudla had submitted a memorandum to MCC Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar to rename Lady Hill Circle as ‘Sri Narayana Guru Circle, now members of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha of the Karnataka had today (30 September) submitted a memorandum urging the Mayor to construct a Circle and also install a statue of Swatantraya Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and name the Circle after him. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (28 May 1883 – 26 February 1966), commonly known as Swatantryaveer Savarkar or simply Veer Savarkar in the Marathi language, was an Indian independence activist, poet, writer, and politician who formulated the Hindu nationalist philosophy of Hindutva. He was also a leading figure in the Hindu Mahasabha.

Regarding the location of the Circle near KSRTC Bus stand, is ALWAYS FLOODED during monsoon, and motorists have to wade through the stranded water- and MCC has turned a blind eye towards this issue for years. Another drawback of this Spot/Circle is that due to the heavy traffic, including a large number of KSRTC buses coming in and out of the bus stand, it would be a hassle for the movement of the traffic. It should be noted, because of this problem, one existing police traffic control stand was removed- and now they are trying to create a Circle, doesn’t make any sense!

As it was stated in the memorandum in Kannada submitted to the Mayor, “Veer Savarkar’s patriotism was unquestionable. He spent two decades in the cellular prison in Andaman, but a particular political party did not allow him to live in peace. The Dakshina Kannada district committee of the Mahasabha has decided that a statue of this great leader should be installed after building a circle in front of KSRTC bus stand. We request you to provide space for creating a circle and for installing the statue of Veer Savarkar in the requested spot”.

After receiving the memorandum, speaking to the media the Mayor said, “The problem with having a circle there is that it will be hard for heavy vehicles, including KSRTC buses to make a turn, and during peak time, the Circle will be inconvenient for motorists. Anyways, we will discuss during the next Council meeting, and take a decision in this regard”. The memorandum was handed over to the Mayor by Dr L K Suvarna- State president ABHM; joined by other state and DK members of ABHM, namely- Rajesh Poojary, Naveen Kumar, Rajesh K Yekkur, Subramanya Rao, Dr Anuradha, Krishna Shetty, and Jagadessh Pumpwell.
