Hindutva is my Life, Some indulged in my Character Assassination – Satyajit Suratkal

Mangaluru: “When I was 11-year-old my brother joined me to the RSS, since then I am working day and night for the Sangh. Hindutva is my life but after I was denied the ticket to contest from the Mangaluru North constituency, some people began to defame me and are trying their best to assassinate my character. They have put false allegations that I have looted money from various organizations being an activist. I ask those who are putting false allegations on me to come in front of me with any proof they have or to any holy place and swear on the allegations they have put. I have neglected my family and worked for the Sangh but today I have been sidelined by the party,” said Satyajit Suratkal in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on May 9.

Addressing the mediapersons Satyajit Suratkal said, “I am an active member in many organizations. There are allegations that I have made money in the Suratkal toll gate. Many cases have been filed against me which is the reason I was denied the ticket to contest the assembly elections. Office bearers of various Unions like the MRPL, ONGC, Airport and NMPT have come here for the press meet to prove that I am innocent. My entire family has worked for the RSS, my mother and sister have worked for the RSS women’s wing. I did not even give much attention to my personal life. After completing my degree I had taken the leadership of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike. I never took a single Rupee from my parents, I was running a shop and whatever I was earning was being spent on the Sangh activities”.

Satyajit further said, “I had an opportunity to contest the elections in 1994 and during the discussions to select the candidate, I took the initiative and we selected Kumble Sundar Rao as the candidate and worked for him to win the elections. I went to Bengaluru and strengthened the Hindu Jagarana Vedike but due to poor health I came back from Bengaluru and continued my business here. Eleven years ago, when there was a threat to my life, I got a gunman and a driver. I have not asked for anything from the Sangh, but today for dedicating my life for Hindutva I have been sidelined. In 1994, there was a protest in Hubballi but some people highlighted it in a different way and there was a threat to my life. I had received beatings from the police during the Hubballi protest, my sacrifice was in vain and that hurt me a lot. My asset is my house and loan Rs 85 lakhs.”

When asked about who was putting the allegations and what was his stand, Satyajit said, “I do not want to mention anyone’s name but I am waiting for the elections to be over. Once the results are out I will take my decision. When I was denied the ticket, I wanted to come to the media but I thought of waiting for some more time. But as the elections are nearing, the allegations on me are also increasing. I have some cases filed against me for protesting in the Netravati issue, Kodagu speech, Ulaibettu protest and Suratkal road extension protest issue and not in any serious crimes.”

When asked about Billawas being sidelined by the BJP in giving the ticket to contest the elections, Satyajit said, “Since my childhood, I have been an RSS worker. I have never said that I am a Billawa. But Hindutva is my life and my identity.”

When asked about the allegations that Satyajit has joined hands with Moideen Bava, Satyajit said, “I have not joined hands with anyone. I have not been involved in any election campaign. After I was denied the ticket, I decided to remain neutral. If I would have cheated or joined hands with anyone, I would not have been in debt now.”

Kusumakar Shetty, Pusparaj, R N Shetty, John D’Souza, Anand and Sridhar were also present.
