The Historic Halls/Buildings at Bunts Hostel Demolished to give way for Rs 220 Crore Mega project of Four Marriage Halls to be ready in 2018-19
Mangaluru: On May 17, 1908, the first general body meeting of the Sangha was held in Ramakrishna Vidyarthi Bhavan in Mangaluru, under the presidentship of Attavara Ramayya Punja, Civil & Military Station Judge, Bangalore. The first office bearers included Attavara Devappa Punja (President), Kodialguthu Krishna Salaya, (Vice President), B. Mahabala Hegde (Secretary) and Attavara Balakrishna Shetty (Treasurer). The Sangha was registered under Madras Government on May 10, 1908.
In 1907, the hostel was started in a bungalow at Karangalpady with six students. Later, on March 3, 1908, the Sangha acquired its present land and constructed the first hostel which was inaugurated on May 19, 1909 by the then District Collector – with 52 students. While this hostel served well in succeeding decades, a new hostel, Vittal Shetty Memorial Building, now serves the students of the community. Since then, many hostels, schools, old age homes and multi-purpose halls have been constructed by the Sangha in taluk towns and other centres.

Bantara Yane Nadavara Sangha name was changed to Bunts Yane Nadavara Mathru Sangha in 2002. Federation of Bunts Associations was established in 1987. In 1987, as a result of efforts to bring all outside Bunt’s associations on a single platform, the federation of global bunts meet was held.
The association annually disburse Scholarship and help to poor students from the endowments set up by personalities. During the every annual meeting, members in recognitions of their contributions are felicitated. The association has always strived to the all-round development of community in various avenues and will continue to do so. Speaking to Mangalorean.com, Sashidhar Shetty, one of the directors of the Sangha said that during one of their meetings it was decided to demolish the old halls and other buildings in the premises in order to built four state-of-the-art Marriage/Convention halls at estimated budget of Rs 220 crores. The construction of new project will start within the next few weeks, and estimate time of completion of the project will be sometime in 2018-19. Even the buildings lined up at the entrance will be demolished eventually to give way for the upcoming project. The new marriage/convention halls will have state-of-the-art facilities.
“The new marriage/convention halls will have state-of-the-art facilities” – Report.
In other words, these halls will have nothing special except for air condition and some decent attached toilets.
“… and some decent attached toilets.” – Joker Rampai
Well, Yumreeki Joker Rampai – what were you expecting? Some cages & poles for pole dancing & strip-tease? Maybe an attached Casino too?
“some cages and poles…” writes Joker Praveena Pinto reminding us all his ‘aadu jeevitham’ life back in Saudi.
Well, more I think about it, I can totally understand why Praveena finds simple air-condition and decent toilets very impressive. These are ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities as compared to quality of accommodation during his Saudi stay!! Imagine sharing a single bedroom/ toilet with 8 roommates!!
“…I can totally understand why Praveena finds simple air-conditioning and decent toilets very impressive.” – Murudeshwara’da Joker – Rampe.
Ayyo, Rampa. Don’t YOU remember?
It was YOU who bothered yourself to mention the AC & Toilets. But then, that is quite understandable. For a fellow who is out in the ‘Wild West’ and out on the range – 24 x 7, there is no AC obviously, and as for toilets – lol…. a handful of dirt and a fistful of $$ suffices!
Good job ya, Rampa. 🙂
Joker Praveena Pinto,
It’s quite clear as to who has higher standards here!! I have a higher expectation from a ‘state-of-the-art’ facility. You are the one who was happy with a simple AC and working toilet after your brutal ‘aadu jeevitham experience!!! Stop embarrassing yourself – time to go back and take your tablets!!! LOL
You are the one who was happy with a simple AC and working toilet… – Yumreeki Rampe
But, RampaNNA, weren’t YOU the one who first pointed out the AC and toilet? After all, when the Yumreeki Lone Rampa rides on the ‘range’ I can imagine what he misses. Poor fellow. he must be hankering for some air-conditioning and a toilet instead of managing to ‘clean-up’ with some dirt and a fistful of $$. 🙂
Fistful of sand is what Joker Pinto could use to take care of ‘business’ during his stay in Saudi Arabia!! No wonder US-rejected Praveena Pinto dreams of a basic toilet and calls it a ‘state-of-the-art’ facility!! I really hope that he finds a job at local Pilikula Zoo very soon.
“I really hope that he finds a job at local Pilikula Zoo very soon” – Murudu Rampe
Oh well, if you become a ‘higher primate’ at Pilikula, I really wouldn’t mind feeding you peanuts! You game, ya Rampa? 🙂
