Mangaluru: August can be one big holiday. Chances are that you may find less staff at the banks or government offices come Tuesday, 8 August, because they may take an extra day off after a long weekend spree. Government/bank employees are already behaving as if every day is a holiday for them. Whenever you visit any government/bank office they will make you to wait for a long time pretending as if they are busy talking about business, instead they will be talking to their family folks or friends on cell phones. And also they may not even care, if they take an extra day off after a long weekend, and put their clients in inconveniences. Yes, the month kicked off with a four-day-long weekend for a quick getaway- and you bet that many government/bank staff have already taken the day off on Friday, August 4, through to Monday, 7 Aug, which is Raksha Bandhan. Later, there’s scope to get nine days’ holidays by taking three days off. After the weekend of August 12-13, the next two days are Janmashtami and Independence Day. Take a day off on Wednesday and you could avail of Jamshed Navroz (Parsi New Year), a restricted holiday, on Thursday, August 17. Another day off on Friday and you are into the next weekend.

Ganesh Chaturthi on Friday, August 25, creates yet another opportunity for a relaxed three-day weekend. Here’s the August holiday list : Aug 7: Raksha Bandhan; Aug 12-13: Weekend; Aug 14: Janmashtami; Aug 15: Independence Day; Aug 17: Parsi New Year (restricted holiday); Aug 25: Ganesh Chaturthi; Aug 26-27: Weekend. And due to all these holidays and long weekends, people who have any banking transaction that requires going to the branch, it is advisable that they do it before all these long weekend start. Individuals are advised to use internet banking facility for any transactions.

Customers can avail cash from ATMs to meet their daily needs but the ATMs too would be queued up. It is advisable for people to opt for online transactions as it would save time, energy and would be easy for people if they are planning to spend their long weekend outdoors.
