Holy Cow! Cow Theft at Bajrang Dal Leader’s House in Iruvail, near Moodbidri

Mangaluru: When night falls in this gritty Coastal Dakshina Kannada district, miscreants troll the darkened streets looking for easy prey on cattle, round them up and carry off in trucks, even cars. Even though the police say they have increased patrols and set up roadblocks in an effort to stop the trafficking, but the brutal kidnappings continue, and the victims-house cows, which are slowly losing their sacred status among some in India — are slaughtered and sold for meat illegally. Cattle rustling, called “lifting” here, is a growing scourge in and around DK.

And many saffron organizations like Sri Rama Sene, VHP an d Bajrang Dal have protested and raised their voices against cattle trafficking, but all in vain, since cattle theft and illegal slaughter is still on the rise. And the latest victim of cow theft happens to be Bharath Kumar Shetty, the leader of Bajrang Dal in Iruvail near Moodbidri. As per the complaint filed by him at the Moodbidri police station, it states that his Jersey cow worth around Rs 35,000 had gone missing during the wee hours of Friday morning. It is also learnt that Bharat’s father had last seen the cow in the shed at around 3 am on Friday, but the theft might have taken place during the later early morning hours.

Regarding this cow theft incident, BJP district secretary Sudarshan M has warned that if police don’t take necessary action against cow thefts that has been going on, they will face consequences in the nearest future because of cow stealing. These kind of incidents are giving scope for communal disharmony in the society.” In the meantime, the police are continuing their investigation in trying to nab the culprits.
