Holy Cow! Not just a Ox, but Sri Basaveshwara Swamy-the Bovine Seer of Ramanagara
Mangaluru: The Star attraction at the ‘Gomandala’ 2-day awareness on cow protection campaign taking place at Nehru Maidan on 7 and 8 December, was the nicely attired and with bundle of Indian money on its forehead was the “Gomatha’ Sri Basaveshwara Swami, known to be the Bovine Seer of Sri Basaveshwara Shrine located at Kavanapura in Ramanagara district. This bovine had the greatest privilege to be on the main stage along with the other dignitaries, including Sri Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala and Sri Vidyaprasanna Seer of Subramanya Math, and was fed every now and then with green grass and other goodies, and getting all the respect from the audience. And it was seated on a separate rectangular divan-styled bed. Isn’t it nice to be a COW getting all that attention and respect?
It is learnt that People address this Cow as Basaveshwara Swami and believe that the animal has sacred power to solve the pain and miseries. This Indian bovine is a celebrated seer of Ramanagara district, which was anointed as Swamiji by a temple trust in 2017, revered as deity of Sri Basaveshwara Shrine, this ox addressed as Sri Basaveshwara swami, is now much sought after for troubleshoots. This indigenous Hallikar breed ox, had a huge fan followers at the event on Saturday at Nehru Maidan, where clicked photographs and others a bunch of selfies.
Hailed as a troubleshooter, the animal has its own method of solving problems and accepting personal invitations, according to a trustee of the shrine. Speaking to Team Mangalorean, the Trustee said, “Sri Basaveshwara Swamy seer has a unique way of accepting invitation. The people coming here should sleep in front of the seer to invite him to their houses. If Swamiji (ox) crosses over a person that simply means, he has accepted the invitation. Later Swamiji will will be accompanied by the Trust members to houses or villages”.
It was also learnt that this Ox has a very tight schedule these days-before coming to Mangaluru for Gomandala event, Sri Basaveshwara Swami (Ox) had visited Tumakuru, Chennapatana, and on Sunday, he will visit Channarayapatna and Mandya before going back to Ramanagara. Varadaraj, the President of the Trust speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “If our Basaveshwara Swami crosses over a person having problems, it is considered that the problems are solved. It is has been found that this bovine seer has divine qualities to end pain and miseries of people. So far the Seer has visited over 600 different places on requests made by various temples and organizations and has helped solve various sufferings”.
