‘Holy Daze!’ – Banks May Remain Closed on 11 Days in July!

Mangaluru: Usually it is in the month of October every year that banks happen to remain closed on account of various festivals and birth anniversaries.

Bank customers had better be prepared to face a volley of holidays this month. Beginning with the holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr marking the end of the month of Ramadan, Sundays, and second and fourth Saturdays will make eight holidays already.

Added to this the State Bank of India and its five associates’ employees have called for a strike on July 12.  Besides, the United Forum of Bank Unions has announced a strike to be staged on July 29 in protest against the Union government’s reform policy in the banking sector.

If all goes ‘well’ for these plans, the banks will remain closed on 11 days in July. Physical withdrawal and deposits and other transactions in additions to clearing business are expected to be severely affected.

But the banking sources said that online and ATM transactions might not be affected.
