Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai Inaugurates Byndoor CPI’s Office

Byndoor: “In order to check the rise in cybercrimes, cybercrime special police stations will be set up across the state soon”, said home minister Basavaraj Bommai. He was speaking to media persons after inaugurating the Circle inspector’s office in Byndoor on November 1.

In view of the rise in cybercrimes being reported, Bommai said that facilities will be provided to train the freshly recruited cops to combat what he dubbed a ‘disease’. “Cybercrime has risen in proportion to our increasing addiction to smartphones. All cops will be provided basic training in forensics and cybercrime.

He further said that at any cost maintaining law and order is the top priority. We have plans to improve the home department with modern facilities. We have also planned to modernize the police stations. People friendly policing is the key, in order to address the complaints of citizens for whom coming to the police station is the last resort.

The state government will be recruiting 16,000 constables and 1,000 sub-inspectors in the next two to three years. Among them, 6,000 policemen including PSIs and constables will be recruited in the current year. The recruitment will be done in phases. The newly-recruited personnel will be trained at 12 police training schools (PTS) in the state, he said.

As utmost priority needs to be accorded to strengthen the cybercrime cell, steps will be taken to further improve it and more grants will be earmarked for this purpose in the next budget, the minister explained.

Informing that he has given instructions to strengthen the coastal security force and take maximum action to safeguard the coastal area.

Earlier there was a women’s police station functioning in Kundapur, it was later shifted to the district headquarters Udupi. The SP has sent the proposal to continue the women’s police station in Kundapur and a decision will be taken in this matter, he said.
