Hoping That Their Dreams Will Come True 6000 Plus Job Seekers Throng St Aloysius 1st MEGA JOB FAIR

 Mangaluru: “Hope I’ll Get Hired today?” “Hope my dreams of getting a good job will come true today?” “I have been waiting so long for a decent paying jog, I only hope my wait will end today” – anticipating those thoughts and many more in mind, Saturday, 25 January 2020 morning saw thousands of young and old job seekers throng St Aloysius College campus for the “FIRST MEGA JOB FAIR 2020, and started their hunt for the companies related to their stream. St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organized this Mega Job Fair, in association with Freshersworld.com, Bengaluru. The final year students and those who have completed B.A., B.Sc., BBA, B.Com. and BCA and all Postgraduate students in Basic Sciences, Humanities, Commerce & Management and Engineering were eligible to participate in the Job fair.

The purpose of this event was to connect the various companies or employers with potential employees, especially the outgoing students. The main intention of the organizers was to present the participants to the many employment opportunities available to them, both locally and nationally- and also provide an opportunity for the present and past students of St Aloysius College, along with the other unemployed youth and adults to get a job. The aspirants who had registered online on the Freshersworld.com web were over 6000, and by 12 noon already 2000 plus had shown up at the fair- out of which only 1700 were from St Aloysius College, and others from elsewhere.

The inauguration of “JOB FAIR 2020” was done by lighting the traditional lamp by Rev Fr Praveen Martis SJ- Principal of St Aloysius College, along with Dr Richard Gonsalves- Convener of the Job Fair; Ms Kavitha V V- Placement Officer; Arun Kumar – Manager Campus Relations (Freshersworld.com) and Lyold Sequeira- St Aloysius Students Council president. Prior to the inauguration the programme began with prayer invoking God’s blessings, followed by welcome address and briefing of the Job Fair by Dr Richard Gonsalves.

Addressing the gathering Fr Praveen Martis SJ said, “I am overwhelmed that after 140 years that St Aloysius College has organized this unique Job Fair for the First time, and which has received a tremendous response with over 6000 aspirants seeking jobs from nearly 40 companies who have joined this job fair. Every year nearly 2000 plus graduate from our college, and it is our duty to see that they get the jobs ready when they exit the institution. Therefore with that intention we had come up with this job fair, which will benefit the students. At present in the world as well as India there is shortage of jobs and youngsters are finding hard to find a decent job. There are jobs which you may like, and there are jobs which you may dislike-but always give a try when job fairs are organized. Best of luck in your future career”.

Various companies particularly Software, Product Development, Banks, Automobile and service sector with different kinds of job requirements participated in the job fair. This job fair is targeting the fresh graduates and also few students who graduated during the previous years. Open positions were available in the following sectors IT Software / Hardware / Networking Sales / Marketing / ITI / Diploma / Banking / Insurance / Retail Sales / BPO / ITES / KPO / Back Office / Non-Voice / Management Trainee / Business Development / IT Help Desk / Technical Support / Relationship officer / HR / Operation. Final year students and those who have completed BA, B Sc, B Com, BBA, BCA, and all Post-Graduate students in Basic Science, Humanities, Commerce, Management, and Engineering participated in the Job Fair.

With such a large number of students participating in this Job Fair, they should, First, pat themselves on their back for being brave enough to attend a job fair. This is a big step they took. They all put their thinking cap on and focused on the ways they can ace the job fair. That’s what you do now before the job fair that will have the biggest impact on how things turn out for their career. The Advantages of this Job Fair was : Access to meet multiple employers at a time; Immediate response for the job application; Many options are confidence boosters; No room for partiality; Cost effective approach to the organization as well as employees; Indirect marketing for the brand; and Lot of effort and it was a time saver.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Kavitha V V and the programme was compered by Ms Preema Pais- Assistant Professor in Chemistry. So Today at the Job Fair, it was a life changing moment for many youngsters in their lives. And many Made Their Dreams Come True with the Jobs that they were waiting for!
