Hosmath Bridge Goes under Water – Traffic Affected
Puttur: The Hosmath bridge across river Gundya went under water on Tuesday evening, as a result of floods caused by heavy rains.
Hundreds of regular commuters, office-goers, students and pilgrims travelling to Shri Kukke Subrahmanya and Dharmasthala temples were stranded for long hours.
As the rains subsided by early Wednesday morning, traffic is expected to move smoothly.
A lot of driftwood, tree branches and other trash have flown over the roads in different places and drivers have been warned to exercise caution.
The highway between Uppinangady and Subrahmanya is a vital link road. If it is cut off, diversions can be too long-winding. A new bridge at a much higher level is under construction, which has been dragging on for years.
Until the new bridge is ready, the woes are likely to continue during the rains.
