How to Make Your Wedding Speech Memorable

Whether you’re the bride, groom, member of the wedding party, or mother of the bride, odds are, you might need a little advice when it comes to making a memorable speech at an important wedding.

Often, people look at speechmaking and consider it a big, scary, horrific event that they can’t wait to be done with – but we think it’s quite the opposite. A wedding speech is a beautiful opportunity for you to give the bride and groom your well wishes — it’s the perfect chance to tell them exactly how happy you are for them in your own, unique way.

If you’ve been privileged enough to be selected as a speechmaker, the first thing you should do is celebrate – it’s nice to be recognized as an important part of the wedding! Secondly, don’t panic!

We’ve put together some great tips for crafting and delivering a flawless, memorable wedding speech!

Look the Part

You had to know this was coming. That means if you’re going to get up there and talk to the talk, you better look good enough to walk the walk. JJ’s House has thousands of beautiful wedding dresses for brides (with styles ranging to classic wedding dresses to mermaid wedding dresses), bridesmaids dresses for members of the wedding party, and even mother-of-the-bride dresses, too! JJ’s House offers tons of styles and cuts, but most importantly they have a size for everyone – they even offer custom sizing if you want to ensure you’re getting the exact right fit you need!

Make it Personal

That’s right, we said it. It doesn’t matter if you’re giving the speech to two people or two hundred people, this speech is about the bride and groom. Don’t be afraid to make it personal. For a memorable speech, ensure that you’re being yourself and that you’re reaching out directly to the bride and groom – after all, this day is about them, not the guests.

Don’t Be Afraid to Go Off Script

Even if you have every intention of sticking to your script, we suggest going with the flow. Don’t be afraid to go off script. Throw in a joke, an aside, or a small anecdote as you remember it. It’s okay to leave a little room for flexibility and creativity!

Put Your Nervousness Aside

We know it’s going to be hard to do this (especially since a lot of people struggle with public speaking) but do your best to set your nervousness aside. We’re not saying that great speech speakers don’t get nervous – they totally do! We simply mean that if you can become even a little more comfortable before you give that speech, the odds of delivering a smooth, memorable speech are much higher!

Get Creative (If You Can)

You don’t have to be overly-creative (we’re not encouraging you to write a speech in poem form if you’re not about it), but it is okay to do things a little differently. That being said, if you have anything super crazy in mind, definitely talk to the bride and groom about it first!
