Humanitarian Emergency Sensitization Session Held at Roshni Nilaya
Mangaluru: Center for Health and Development [CHD- India] in collaboration with Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences held a sensitization workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction at the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya on September 1.
Dr Saba Mansoor, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences and Director- Operations, CHD-India was the resource person for the day. Dr Saba while addressing the Bachelors of Social Work students spoke about how Disaster Management as a priority is shaping up in India. She sensitised the students on the different types of disasters and the role social workers should play while responding to humanitarian emergencies.
Emphasis was laid on psychological rehabilitation and approach towards providing relief. The students were exposed to role plays and they had to enact a disaster situation and the manner in which they would approach the given emergency. Best practices on disaster management, current policy framework and the recent updates on public health and social work in humanitarian emergencies were discussed in the three-hour long sensitization session.
