‘I Don’t Trust Police-CID should Probe into My Son’s Murder’- Jaleel Karopadi’s Dad
Mangaluru: Even though the Dakshina Kannada district police have nabbed eleven persons in connection with the murder of Abdul Jaleel Karopadi, 36, vice-president of gram panchayat in Bantwal Taluk on April 20, 2017, but many suspect that Vicky Shetty, a fugitive gangster is the man behind the murder plan, Political as well as personal rivalry led to the murder of Abdul Jaleel in broad daylight on April 20. Police also have seized two bikes, lethal weapons and a car. During interrogation, the arrested spilled the beans about others and also revealed that fugitive Vicky Shetty is the mastermind behind the murder as he was not happy with Jaleel becoming vice-president and was batting for nephew Dinesh Shetty for the gram panchayat post. Dinesh Shetty is a son of Balakrisha Shetty, who is a brother of fugitive gangster.
Police added that in 2015, Dinesh Shetty was hoping for the post of vice-president but it was given to Abdul Jaleel, who earlier enjoyed the post of panchayat president. Irked by this, Dinesh had complained about this to the fugitive. Later, Vicky Shetty contacted Rajesh Nayak, a rowdy-sheeter to hatch a plan to kill Jaleel. On his instruction, Rajesh brought several others on board. Vicky Shetty made several VoIP calls to Rajesh to execute the plan. Several other persons wanted in this case, are absconding and will be arrested soon, as per police reports earlier. It is also learnt that Vicky Shetty and his accomplices also did not like Jaleel growing as a popular leader of that region. The murderers had waited for almost a month to kill Jaleel, who was away for by-election campaign in Nanjangud and Gundlupet.
Not happy with how the police have been handling this murder case, Usman Karopadi, the father of Karopadi gram panchayat vice-president Abdul Jaleel Karopadi who burst into tears before he could address the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, slowly managed to speak out saying, ” Even though the police have arrested 11 persons in connection with my son’s murder, I am not happy with the police authorities, and I have lost complete faith in them. I very much know that Vicky Shetty is involved in this murder case out of revenge- because in 2015, Vicky Shetty’s cousin Dinesh Shetty during the gram panchayat elections wanted the post of Panchayat vice-president and Vicky Shetty was his big supporter. And since the post was won by my son, Jaleel, I bet they took this revenge on my son”
“In spite of Home minister G Parameshwara and district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai who visited my residence on 2 May and promised to take stern action against those who committed this heinous crime, and they had also directed IGP Harishekharan to follow up the case and bring justice to us, but until now there has been no progress. I even met the IGP twice and produced certain documents and also gave reliable information pertaining to my son’s brutal murder, but it seems like the police department is taking it easy and delaying the case” added Usman.
Usman Karopadi further said, “Even though the police have arrested 11 persons, but they have not arrested the prime suspect Dinesh Shetty, which I urge them to do so. I also demand the arrest of Dinesh Shetty and also his close aide who hatched this murder conspiracy. I have received some information that a deal was made for Rs 50 lakh, of which Rs 40,000 has already been paid. Knowing all this, the police have remained numb as to who paid Rs 40,000. When asked about whereabouts of Dinesh Shetty, the police say that he has taken off to Kerala. But people have seen Dinesh attending a function at Mitthanadka on May 5. While Dinesh is still around here, why police are not arresting him? Regarding this case, I and few other Panchayat members have received threat calls from aides of Vicky Shetty. Having lost faith in the police, and since I don’t trust our police officials anymore, I urge that this case is taken over by CID for further interrogation so that justice would be served. I am also planning to meet CM Siddaramaiah next week in Bengaluru to brief him more on this case so that he can put some pressure on the concerned authorities to do the needful”
Usman also showed the media persons a photo of a policeman belonging to Vittal Police station, snapped with financier Pradeep Shetty, assuming that both the persons are also involved in the case. Usman also said that the entire Vittal police force should be sacked, and replaced by new police officials. Also present during the press meet were Panchayat board members namely Vanaja Shetty, Ligoury, K Seetharam Shetty and Baby R Shetty.
It has also been learnt that with a strong witness in hand, Dakshina Kannada Police are mulling to invoke Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (K-COCA), 2000 against Vicky Shetty. As per the police Vicky, a notorious criminal, known for his inclination towards right-wing associations, has been involved in dozens of criminal cases including murder and criminal conspiracy- and he is been operating from foreign soil and police will be invoking K-COCA to bring him to India.
