‘I have Directed DC to Investigate St Agnes Headscarf Issue’ – Minister Khader

Mangaluru: “I have directed the Deputy Commissioner to intervene to solve the St Agnes College headscarf issue. St Agnes is a prestigious college with 97 years of history and thousands of students have been educated there. The College is recognised internationally and the scarf issue should not bring a bad name to the Institution. Since it is a sensitive issue we should all sit together and discuss the issue to solve it amicably. Outsiders should not interfere and instigate the students to go against the institution and bring a bad name to it”, said the Minister of Housing and Urban Development U T Khader during an interaction with media persons at the DC office here on June 30.

When the journalists asked about the initiative taken to solve the St Agnes College headscarf issue, Khader said, “I am not the one to take the decision, I can only instruct the deputy commissioner to discuss the matter with the concerned authorities of the College and solve it. I want this issue to be solved soon to retain harmony and brotherhood.”

When asked about the organization that had instigated the students to protest against the College, Khader said, “Who am I to take action? If there is any complaint against them, we can proceed legally to take action against the organization. The District administration has the right to intervene and take necessary action.”

ADC Kumar and others were also present.

I don’t think he will have the same kind of response if the institution was run by Hindus. This controversy has exposed the double standards of minorities in mangaluru area. I’m glad that it has happened so everyone can see the true color of these anti-hindu factions.

What you are saying does not add up. Why did you direct the DC to investigate the scarf issue with St. Agnes?

If you felt they are a reputable organization and they deal fairly, then don’t get the DC involved just send the aggravated parties to the school and discuss with the management/principal.
