Responding to media persons on Sunday, February 24 in Udupi about the ‘Go Bach Shobha’ campaign in the constituency Shobha said, “After becoming the MP, Udupi got a Passport center. I have brought Sakhi the one-stop center in Udupi which is the first of its kind in Karnataka. Kendriya Vidyalaya schools have been started in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru. Udupi has got the GTTC College and the skill development center in the last 5 years of my tenure. In my Lok Sabha tenure, Udupi has received the highest amount of Rs 550 crore CRF grant and also many roads have been upgraded and developed as national highways. As a woman MP, I have done many more development works in my constituency. Someone ticket aspirants for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are involved in baseless allegations against me. Many male MP’s have represented Udupi–Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency but what have they contributed?” she questioned.
Without mentioning the name of the Strong BJP ticket aspirant and former MP Shobha said, “To ask the Lok Sabha ticket for someone, they are insulting me with baseless allegations. I don’t know whether the party will give me another chance to contest from this constituency but I have done my work sincerely. A group of some 10-20 youth are creating false rumours against me. I don’t care for all such threats. Since the last 25 years, I have worked for BJP and also toured the state to build the party. I am ready for an open discussion about my contribution to the constituency as well as the party,” she said.
Many people have joined the #GobackShobha campaign and have urged the BJP leaders not to field Shobha Karandlaje again from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Netizens on Twitter and Facebook have launched #GobackShobha campaign and thousands have supported it. They have expressed their displeasure in the Twitter accounts of Prime Minister Modi, BJP National President Amit Shah and BJP Karnataka.
Slogans like ‘We do not want MP who makes flying visit to Udupi-Chikkamagaluru when the elections near,’ ‘Shobha Beda Innomme’, ‘Shobhakka Hatao Udupi Bachao’ are being shared in the social media.
In the meantime, a campaign in favour of senior leader Jayaprakash Hegde too has been initiated. The campaign #JPH4Udupi-Chikkamagaluru’ is popular among the Twitterati.
