I thought BJP wanted only our MLAs But now they Want our Corporators too – Khader

Mangaluru: “We thought that the BJP did not have able MLAs to contest the Assembly elections and they tried to buy our MLAs through operation Kamala. But now they don’t even have able candidates to contest the MCC elections”, said former Minister and MLA U T Khader in a press meet held at the DCC office, Mallikatte here on October 31.

When asked about the Congress corporator Asha D’Silva who has joined the BJP and has got the ticket to contest the MCC elections, Khader said, “I never thought that the BJP will face such a situation. I thought they want only our MLAs but now they don’t even have able candidates to contest the MCC elections and are taking our corporator. They want the Congress corporators to contest the MCC elections, I really pity them.”

When asked about the allegations by the party workers that non-performers have been given the ticket, Khader said, “We have given the ticket to able candidates. After thorough discussions and scrutiny by the senior Congress leaders and observers, the candidates were finalised. We had many aspirants but there are only 60 seats and the leaders finalized the list after thorough scrutiny and discussions”.

When asked about the assault on Moideen Bava and what action the party will take against Gulzar Banu, Khader said, “We condemn the assault on anyone. When the observer has said that he will take disciplinary action, he will do it. Who am I to interfere in this matter? The decision will be taken by the DCC president and the observers. Today is the last date to file the nominations.”

When asked about the differences and the fighting within the Congress party after announcing the list of candidates for the MCC elections, Khader said, “It was a friendly fight, our party workers are like one family. It is natural to get disappointed when some of the aspirants do not get the ticket but in the future, they will get an opportunity”.
