Amsterdam, Nov 20 (IANS) Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff has said he is “convinced” he will win his “battle” against lung cancer.

The three-time World Footballer of the Year was diagnosed with the illness last month.

“I am fully confident everything will turn out fine,” the 68-year-old was quoted as saying by bbc.co.uk on Thursday.

“I feel good after the first time. I had no problems. My mentality is that chemotherapy is my friend because it is there to kill the cancer.”

Cruyff, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, guided his country to the 1974 World Cup final, losing to West Germany.

He also won three consecutive European Cups as a player with Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam.

He also coached Spanish giants FC Barcelona to their first European Cup win in 1992 and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1989 and four consecutive La Liga titles from 1990-91 to 1993-94.
