ICS and AJ Hospital Hold Health Awareness and Medical Screening Camp

Mangaluru: Indian Cancer Society in association with A J Hospital and Research Centre, Ave Maria Palliative Care and Jeevanidhi Trust, Bajpe, organized a Health Awareness and Medical Screening Camp on February 18. The Camp was organized at the Jeevanidhi Trust premises, ‘Jeevanidhi SATHIVM’, Opposite Nazareth Home, Old Convent Road, Bajpe.

About 87 people enrolled themselves in the camp and the awareness camp was a great success. Experienced doctors from ENT, Oncology, Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments administered and imparted awareness on health information, conducted head and neck screening, Breast Examination (Women above 18), Pap Smear (married women).

Awareness was rendered by experienced health specialists, PowerPoint presentations and videos. The Bethany Nazareth Home Novitiates and local volunteers contributed to the success of the camp.

The local collaborators were Rotary Club Bajpe, Mangaluru Vimana Nildana Nirvasitara Abhivraddi Sangha, Chaithanya Mahila Mandala, Muranagara, Grama Shake, D.S.S., Siddharthanagara and Sadhana Jnanha Vikasa Kendra, Siddharthanagara.

Jeevanidhi Trust, a registered public charitable trust since 2007, in collaboration with FEDINA Bengaluru and various other organizations such as KMC (Community medicine and community dentistry departments) conducted 1-day tobacco cessation camps in Siddharthanagar Bajpe, Jyothinagar Kavoor, Pavoor Manjeshwar, Asaigoli Derelakatte and Gidigere Kateel in the previous years. Similarly with Fr Mullers Medical College and Hospital (Department of Medicine and Department of Psychiatric medicine Jeevanidhi Trust has also conducted 9-day Alcohol de-addiction camps in various rural pockets such as Paneer and Sankolige.

Jeevanidhi-SATHIVAM, a project of Jeevanidhi Trust, aims at providing treatment to victims of substance abuse, especially alcohol and tobacco. The treatment helps in the process of de-addiction and revival from substance abuse and facilitates the integration of the recovered patients to their families and the society. Also serving as a rehabilitation centre, Jeevanidhi-SATHIVAM helps people to regain faith, hope and a direction to living a calm, composed and satisfied life. It helps to re-integrate people who were often neglected in their surroundings, workplace or homes because of substance abuse. The people are enabled to live a sober life, with gainful employment and build a strong self-esteem. A special focus is rendered to the younger generations to prevent the circle of substance abuse through awareness programmes in high schools.
