ICYM Udupi Diocese Welcomes ‘Days in Diocese’ Delegates

Udupi: In view of the National Youth Convention to be organized by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) at St Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru from 18 to 22 January 2017, youth delegates from various diocese from all over India arrived to Udupi Diocese, Udupi on 14 January 2017 for an experience of staying with families in the diocese under the programme of ‘Days in Diocese’.

The diocese of Udupi gave a warm welcome to the youth delegates who arrived from all over India. The ICYM officer bearers of the Udupi Diocese personally went to the Indrali Railway station and received the youth delegates. Around 500 delegates from 34 diocese of 11 states arrived to Udupi for ‘Days in Diocese’.

On behalf of the Udupi Diocese, these youth delegates were accorded a formal welcome at St Cecily’s College, Udupi. The delegates were brought in a procession to the auditorium; the ICYM officer bearers of Udupi Diocese welcomed the delegates by offering the diocesan shawl to each of them at n the entrance of the auditorium. Fr Reginald Pinto, the Director for Social and service development association provided the information of the diocese to the delegates. Thereafter, the delegates were sent to various parishes of the diocese.

ICYM diocese director Fr Edwin D’Souza, YCS national director Fr Chenthan Machado, Nakre church priest Fr Vincent Crasta, Udupi Church assistant priest Fr Royston Fernandes, Fr William Martis, ICYM Diocese president Loyal D’Souza, Secretary Felina D’Souza, Lady Animator Sr Hilda, Male Animator Walter D’Souza, vice president Aurther Dais, former president Derrick Mascarenhas, Treasurer Don D’Souza, PRO Oniel Andrade, Denary presidents Royton D’Souza, Vinyel D’Souza, Flexon D’Silva and others were present.

These youth get an opportunity to witness and experience the art, culture and ways of life of the local people through the programme ‘Days in Diocese’. Delegates will stay in groups with the families of ICYM members in various churches of Udupi Diocese. Besides understanding local culture, the youth from other parts of India will learn about the ways of life as well as food habits of the people with whom they would stay and interact and gain new experience.

From the evening of 14 January till the morning of 17 January these youth representatives will be hosted by the ICYM families in the respective parishes. This will provide them an opportunity to learn about the culture and life of the people with whom they live.

The valedictory programme of the ‘Days in Diocese’ will be held at St Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur-Karkala on 17 January at 10:00 am. The Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo will concelebrate the mass and thereafter, the youth representatives will be given a warm send off.
