Mangaluru : Following close on its heels, after Team Mangalorean had published an article four days ago, (Ref : ‘Relishing’ Collegehood Memories, DCM Dr Ashwath Narayan ‘Relished’ on 3 Flavours of Ideal Ice Cream ), when Deputy CM of Karnataka Dr Ashwath Narayan had feasted on a few Ideal Ice Cream favourites at Ideals’Craem parlour on GHS road, now yet another VIP from the Kannada cinema world, Anant Nagarkatte, fondly known as “Anant Nag”, made his maiden visit to Ideal’s Cafe, to savour some delicious flavours of Ideal Ice Cream for the First time. Nag was in the City along with his wife, Ms Gayathri Nag, for a function organized by Young Chitrapura Saraswath Sangha, where they had honoured him at a function held at Ganapathy High school, Mangaluru.

Anant Nagarkatte, known as Anant Nag, is known primarily for his work in Kannada cinema, and in addition he appeared in Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi movies. He acted in Malgudi Days, directed by his younger brother Shankar Nag, based on the stories by R. K. Narayan. He is fluent in Kannada, Konkani, Marathi, English,and Hindi. He won six Filmfare Awards South and five Karnataka State Film Awards. Born on 4 September 1948 to Anandi and Sadanand Nagarkatte in the Chowpatty suburb of Mumbai, into a Konkani-speaking family, his family settled in Shirali, Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada of Karnataka State.

Nag had his early schooling in a Catholic school in Ajjarkad, Udupi, Ananda Ashrama in Dakshina Kannada and Chitrapur Math in Uttara Kannada districts of the erstwhile Mysore State (now Karnataka). After class 7th standard, he was sent to Mumbai for further study where he studied until class 11. This was when he was drawn towards the theatre movement of Mumbai and he was selected to act in Konkani, Kannada and Marathi-language plays which he did until he turned 22. Nag has acted in numerous Kannada films. Married to Gayatri on 9 April 1987, he has a daughter, Aditi.

Following his visit to Umamaheshwari Temple in the City, Anant Nag and his wife were escorted by Mukund Kamath, the Managing partner of Ideal Ice Cream to visit Venkataramana Temple in Car Strret, Mangaluru, following which Mukund invited Anant Nag and wife to Ideal’s Cafe, to feast on some of the delicious ice cream flavors. At the Cafe, the Nag’s were joined by Prabhakar Kamath-the Founder of Ideal Ice Cream, and his wife, Jaya Kamath; Mukund Kamath’s wife, Divya, Son Mohit and daughter, Manya; his sister Usha Shenoy, and his niece, Vijetha.

Feasting on Gadbud, Marzi paan, and slice of frozen iPizza, Anant Nag interacting with the Kamath family said, “I have traveled all over the world, including USA, and had tried all kinds of Ice Cream flavours, but frankly speaking, being here for the first time and trying Ideal Ice Creams for the FIRST time, I can tell they are the BEST ice creams that I have tasted so far- and in future, when I get a chance to visit Mangaluru, I will never go back without patronizing any one of the four Ice Cream shacks of Ideal Ice Cream. The Kamath’s made my day filled with sweetness, and feasting on all these creamy cool stuff, tehre is hardly any space left in my belly to have my lunch. No doubt a great place to experience the out of the world Ice Cream flavours. Will be back, for sure!”.
