Idols Galore at ‘My Friend Ganesha’ Idol Making Contest by ‘Happy Hearts’

Mangaluru: The first floor of Bharath Mall was occupied with both young and old who were busy creating unique figures of Lord Ganesh to mark “Ganeshotsava” celebrations. There were tiny/small Lord Ganeshas made by Kids, and also large Ganeshas made by adults- all trying to prove as to who is a better idol-maker than the other. The two unique Lord Ganesha idols that were featured for the FIRST time at the content were- “Rubik Ganesha” made out of assembling 250 Rubik Cubes by two brothers from Pethri, near Udupi namely Prithveesh K and Pradheesh K, which according to the “K” Brothers is the First of its kind in the World; and the other “Balloon Ganesha” made with bunch of balloons put together by Sachin M of Mangalur, also a member of Leo Club, Mangaluru.

For the second time, this unique contest was organized by Happy Hearts in association with Bharath Mall, Mangaluru and Bharath Bookmark named “My Friend Ganesha” – an Idol making contest which was held at Bharath Mall-First Floor. The President and members of Leo Club of Mangaluru, Janani Trust and Letz Party team worked in collaboration with the ‘Happy Hearts’ to make the event run in a smooth manner. A large audience witnessed the participants creating unique Ganesha Idols out of NewsPapers, CD, Vegetables, Balloons, Rubik Cubes, Mud/Clay, Empty Oil Plastic Container, and many other materials.

Soujanya Hegde the Co-ordinator of the team has been involved in such kids related activities in Nigeria where she was residing for over 10 years with her husband Sudhir Hegde (General Manager of Seven up/Pepsi Bottling Company). While in Nigeria, she was the Cultural Secretary of the Indian Cultural Association and also ran a dance and Cultural institution. Recently Soujanya won the “Mrs Popular” title at Haute Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2017′ pageant. She is a freelance compere and hosts various shows. She is currently working with Namma Tv Channel and the proud owner of Letz Party- the complete party store in Mangaluru.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Soujanya Hegde, the Founder of ‘Happy Hearts’ said, “Happy Hearts is an organisation which takes great pride in hosting events and activities for children. The children of today are the bright future of tomorrow, so we need t nurture them with a strong foundation. We all strive to give Children good education but at Happy Hearts we provide them with a platform to portray their talents and abilities. “My Friend Ganesha” is a unique and creative contest of Idol making. This is the second year of the competition and the participation and response has been overwhelming-there were kids to adults all using their own creativity to make the idols of Lord Ganesh “

Prithveesh K, who was then a final year Electronics student of SDM Engineering College, Ujire on October 2, 2016 had entered the Guinness Book of World Records by creating separate pictures on two sides of a Rubik’s cube by using as many as 4,500 cubes, where he had created images of “Charlie Chaplin” and “Mr. Bean” on two sides of the Rubik’s Cube. A total of 20 students of “SDMIT Cubers’ Team joined hands with Prithveesh in helping him set the Guinness Record. He received the certificate from the Guinness Book of World Record authorities on February 15, 2017. The mosaic was constructed vertically and depicts the images on both the sides of the walls using 3x3x3 Rubik’s cubes only. The image of Charlie Chaplin and Mr Bean was represented on each side. The mural was 15 feet high and the team began working on it from 7.30 am and completed it by 2.30 pm.

And at this “My Friend Ganesha” idol making Contest, Prithveesh along with his brother Pradheesh created a Ganesha Idol made out of 250 Rubik Cubes- and since it was such a unique creation, the judges at the contest had no other choice than to award them with the First Place in the open category – and both the brothers deserved it for the efforts and creativity that they had put in making such an eye-catching Ganesha figure. Even though the media has been carrying news about Ganesha idols being made out of paper, biscuits, sand, and other materials- this Ganesha Idol was quite eco-friendly, where the idol is not immersed in the water, instead the idol is dismantled and the Rubik Cubes are reused for a better purpose.
