If it Snowed in UK, it Rained in DK? Mysterious Rain on Christmas Eve Dampens Revelers Night Out
Mangaluru: When is the last time it rained in Mangaluru on a Christmas Eve night? I don’t remember. It makes me wonder when was the last time people heard thunder on Christmas Eve? As far as I can remember, never heard thunder on Christmas Eve or Christmas. Talk about Global Warming, probably that could be the reason Mangaluru saw rain showers on a Christmas Eve of 24 December 2018 at around 9 pm or so. Or could it have been the effect of the recent tnusami in Indonesia ? May be. Whatever could be the reasons Mangaloreans saw surprising showers last night.
Even though the weatherman had predicted rain for Monday night, but no one took it serious, for the fact, the weatherman is not always right. Churches in the City and DK had open air mass arranged for Christmas eve mass between 7- 7.30 pm at different places. Revelers had planned some outdoor activities for Monday night. Shoppers were still doing business as usual selling the last minute Christmas tree ornaments/stars that people wanted to buy. But alas, at around 9 pm or so, the whole neighbourhood woke up to the booming of thunders followed by showers. The lightning had a devastating effect and mission. After the frightening peals of thunder, the rain then stopped slowly. People were surprised at the strange development. No one expected rain on a Christmas eve night. Oh well!
Right after the Christmas eve mass, me and my friends gathered at Hotel Taj Gateway-Manjarun to celebrate the Birthday of Jesus Christ, for the sumptuous Christmas eve buffet. As I was holding my plate filled with turkey slices covered with cranberry sauce, and watching the chef fry prawns wrapped with bacon on the skittle- all of a sudden we could hear the hissing-sizzling sound coming- and it was the rain drops dropping on the skittle and making that noise- and my plate was also soaked by water. Quickly we all ran indoors. Even the music man had to stop playing his electric guitar, so that he could be safe from the electric shock!
That was the scene last night, due to the surprise call made by the Mother nature. Rain drops falling on the swimming pool was an added attraction to watch- and revelers could resist themselves from taking pictures on their smart-phones and of course, selfies by the poolside- but luckily no one fell into the pool during the selfie spree; looking outside on the road people were running for shelter, since no had the rain gear to protect them from the downpour. Auto-rickshaws made a soaring business taking people to their destinations.
But God had the truly blessings on faithful, because it only rained after the mass got over at many churches. But those churches which had some fun activities after the mass felt the brunt of the rain, and had to make some alternate arrangements. So the Christmas Eve of 24 December of the year 2018 is something to remember and keep as a memory sake. Many organizers are worried about their open-air New Year’s Eve bashes planned for 31st December night, after witnessing the rain spell last night. Oh well, it will be a good idea to stay indoors on 31st rather than take the risk in getting wet or for that matter, get busted by cops for driving or riding under the influence of ???
