If Muslim leaders agree, I am Ready to Organize Iftar Get-together – Pejawar Swamiji
Udupi: “If Muslim leaders and scholars agree, then I am ready to organize an Iftar get-together this year too,” said Sri Vishwesha Thirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math. He was speaking to mediapersons at the Pejawar Math on Friday, June 1.
Last year, during the Paryaya, the Iftar get-together organized in Krishna Temple sparked a controversy across the state. “After that incident, Muslim leaders are not showing interest to participate in a get-together. If they are ready, then surely we will organize it this year at the Govinda Kalyana Mantapa,” Said the Swamiji.
The Swamiji further said that the majority and minority communities should be treated equally in the country and said, “I have never said anywhere that the constitution should be changed. Every government should treat each and every person equally. Education, food and other government facilities should reach the poor people of all religions.”
Clarifying on the misunderstandings, he said, “Many people say that I am against Dr B R Ambedkar but this is not true. I respect him. He has given the constitution to our country. I have never said that Dalits should not have the reservation. I said that reservation should also be given to all Hindus and not only to the minority community. There will be discrimination between the minority and majority religions if the government provides all the facilities only to the people of minority community which is wrong. In a secular country, the government should treat the people of all faiths and religions equally. I have good relations with people of all religions.”
Speaking about Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, the Swamiji said that Kumaraswamy is an experienced politician. “I wish that his government completes the full tenure. Today, politicians are busy with Resort politics. Political parties have lost their morality which is condemnable. I want to see all parties’ and the government to rise up in the state as well as in the nation.”
Speaking about an opposition free government in the country, the Swamiji said that in a democratic country, the existence of the opposition parties is crucial. “The Modi government has done a lot of work in the last four years but there is still a lot of pending work. We have hopes on the Modi government. Before building the Ram Mandir, the financial situation of the country should improve,” he added.
