Udupi: Chief Secretary to Government of Karnataka will convene a meeting on the collection of toll with the peoples representatives and Ministers and the demand will be put forth for concession and even exemption if the rules permit said Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Fisheries, Minister in-charge District, Pramod Madhwaraj. He was speaking to the media persons during his visit to inspect the construction work of Malpe-Padukere Bridge here on February 15.

 A meeting will be convened with the minister in-charge district of D.K and Udupi on the collection of toll. The meeting will also witness the participation of company officials and the NHAI. Every possible concession and exemption will be asked if the rules permit. There is a provision for concession for local vehicles in the km limits.

The NITK toll exemption for the KA 19 vehicles is a benevolent announcement from a local BJP leader who manages the toll plaza. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel should intervene in closing the NITK toll plaza as the Hejamadi toll plaza is in the range of 12 km. The NITK toll plaza was expected to close down in December, it should be closed in 24 hours as it is affecting a lot of people.

Answering on the drinking water issues Madhwaraj said that instructions are given to the CMC commissioner and PDO on managing drinking water supply through tankers to water scarcity areas. If drinking water issues are not effectively addressed the officials responsible will be suspended, he warned and said that the ban on bore well has been lifted in the district.

While questioned on the announcement of Udupi district as drought affected district he said that more funds will be sanctioned for the supply of drinking water and other works related to drinking water.

He also announced a relief of rupees 5 lakh to Santosh Hosmani’s family who was injured during a 97 kg Greco-Roman bout held at Hubli. The latter breathed his last following cardiac arrest. He also said that the medical expenses of Santosh will be reimbursed by the state government. When media persons questioned about the family members and relatives demanding compensation of Rs 25 lakh and a job on compassionate grounds to one of the family members the minister said that in my limits I can sanction Rs 5 lakh and for additional compensation, the matter will be discussed with the Chief Minister, he added.

Santosh Hosmani had suffered a thigh fracture during a 97 kg Greco-Roman bout against Mohammad Ali of Davanagere on February 8. After initial treatment at the District Hospital and SDM Hospital in Dharwad, he had been admitted to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital here. He underwent surgery on Monday. With fat entering his blood vessels, he suffered a cardiac arrest on Tuesday.
