Illegal Encroached Parking Spaces will be Demolished – Mayor Kavitha

Mangaluru: “Every week we hold traffic related meetings and take measures to solve the traffic problems. But some people have constructed shops and some have started illegal skill games in the parking areas in buildings. We will demolish such shops and buildings”, said Mayor Kavitha Sanil in a press meet held at her chamber here on January 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Kavitha Sanil said, “Some shop owners have encroached the parking areas illegally to extend their shops which have created traffic problems in the City. Because of the traffic problems many road users face problems. We have prepared a list of such places where the shop owners have encroached parking areas. Based on the list we will start our operation to demolish them.”

Mayor Kavitha further said, “In the heart of the city, we have identified 25 places where parking spaces in buildings have been encroached. Some have constructed buildings in the parking area, some have set up hotels, shops and skill games centres. We have issued notices to the owners who have encroached the parking areas. If they voluntarily vacate the space it will be good, if they fail to do MCC will start its operation to demolish such places.”

Mayor Kavitha also said, “We have already instructed the MESCOM department to disconnect the electricity to such buildings and their license will be cancelled. If we start our operation to demolish such buildings where there is encroachment people will benefit. We are not against anyone but we want the city to develop. I request the cooperation and support of the public to solve the parking problems in the city.”

Illegal Roadside food stalls, and vendors of all kinds of articles of household by locals and now as well by people from other states have sprung up so rapidly all over Karnataka, it looks like a free space for all who intend to make an honest and decent living, and the others, who do not think so, indulge in criminal activities to make a quick buck! So what is really wrong in the above two situations? Obviously, the two authorities who are appointed and put in authority are not performing their jobs. So whatever Mayor Sanil might get up today… Read more »
