Illegal Sand Extraction Boats and Vehicles Seized in Kundapur

Kundapur: The district police team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Karkala Krishnakanth, busted an illegal sand mining racket on the banks of Molahalli river in Kundpaur on Sunday late night and seized boats, vehicles and machinery used for mining sand.

Acting on a tip-off from the public, the team led by ASP Krishnakanth raided the spot. The Police seized 9 empty boats, one boat filled with sand, 1 truck and one car from the spot. More than 10 persons engaged in illegal sand mining were taken into custody.

All the seized vehicles and machinery were handed over to the mines and geology department for further action, said the police.

District mines and Geology officer Mahesh, Kota PSI Sanjeev Shetty and others visited the spot.

A case has been registered in the Kota Police Station.

During the phone-in programme on Friday, March 1st many complaints were registered in regard to the illegal sand extraction in Kundapur area. SP Nisha James had assured the public that in order to curb the illegal sand extraction and other illegal activities she would form a special team comprising of the district level police officers. As per her assurance, the police have initiated action and conducted raids on suspected areas where illegal activities are taking place.
