Illegal sand mining: Five persons externed from Udupi district
Udupi: The district police have been externed five persons from Udupi district who are allegedly involved in the illegal sand mining case. The accused have been externed from Udupi district following orders from the taluk magistrate.
They have been identified as Rohit (25), Balaram (40), Rambavan (24), Salik Ram (25), Masther (21), all residents of Nawabganj in Uttar Pradesh.
N Vishnuvardhan, Additional Superintendent of Police, said that the action was the result of a crackdown by the police against illegal sand extractors, following the attack on Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis and her team, when they raided an illegal sand extraction site on April 3.
They were subject to externment procedure and then put on a train to their State, he said.
