I’m Not a Judge to give Verdict on Corporator’s Behaviour’- Mayor Kavitha Sanil

I’m Not a Judge to give Verdict on Corporator’s Behaviour’- Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Kavitha Sanil in response to the allegations raised by the opposition members that Corporator Vinayaraj should apologize and Mayor should take action for the former role in pelting stones at the glass windows of Income Tax Office in Mangaluru, in retaliation of IT officials raid on State Minister DK Shivakumar’s residences in Bengaluru and other locations.

Mangaluru : OMG- I was confused whether I was a MCC Council Meeting Hall or at the Central Fish Market? The noise and behaviour of the elected MCC corporators and opposition members was so very unruly and noisy, it was simply a ugly scene to watch and listen to these so called councilors yelling at each other over the microphone- and the helpless Mayor had to convince and pacify these “Men” and “Women” to calm down and sit calm at their seats, and behave like councilors and not……??

Yes, it was a MCC Council Meeting held at the Council Hall on Thursday, 31 August 2017 at 4.30 pm. It seemed like only two topics were chalked out for the day- one about the behaviour of Corporator Vinayraj; and other about Antony Waste Management Cell Pvt Ltd. not doing their job right. Members of the opposition party namely Tilak Raj Krishnapura and Sudhir shetty Kannur raising their voices said that Corporator Vinayaraj, being a lawyer, a elected corporator holding a Congress flag in his hand had pelted stones at the local Income Tax office in Pandeshwar, in retaliation of IT officials raid on Minister DK Shivakumar’s residences. The opposition members demanded that corporator Vinayaraj make a public apology for his illegal act, and demanded that the Mayor should take a suitable action.

In response the Mayor said that the incident in which the Corporator was involved in it, a case has been filed, and the court will decided on it. I am just a Mayor of the MCC and not a Judge to make any decision or give an verdict on this particular incident. Not happy with the Mayor’s answer, and also that corporator Vinayaraj was very much reluctant to stand up and apologize, the opposition members all got up and gathered in front of the Mayor’s dais- and raised their voices and got into arguments with the Mayor, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer and Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh.

In spite of repeated requested to these opposition members to get back to their seats, but all her efforts were in vain. The meeting was stalled for quite sometime- and after a while the opposition members cooled down a bit, and returned back to their original seats. Then came yet another argument from both sides, about the improper and negligence work done by the management of Antony Waste Management. The members complained that the workers of this garbage disposal company are not collecting the garbage in a scheduled time- they do their garbage collecting rounds according to their timing and wish.

Opposition member Tilak Raj in a witty comment said that talking about Antony WASTE Management is Simply a WASTE? He further said that even after residents have constantly complained about the improper and incomplete work of the waste disposable company, they still repeat the same mistakes again and again. When there are complaints about grass being grown big in many areas, the company gives excuses that they are lacking on grass cutting machines, and are waiting for the new machines to come in.

But opposition member Roopa D Bangera said that if that is the case, how come all the grass cutting machines are put into use to trim/cut grass during a CM or other VIP’s visit. This is all games played by the garbage company and MCC. Both are putting blame on each other- and in between the residents are the ones who will suffer. She also noted that garbage collectors have gone on strike many times, due to non-payment of their salary in time- and seems like this will never stop, unless MCC makes proper payments to the garbage disposal company, so that they can pay their laborers in time, and avoid all this mess.

In response to all the complaints pertaining to Antony Waste Management Co, Mayor Kavitha and Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said that they have discussed these issues with the owner of Antony waste, and explained all the inconveniences and hardships faced due to carelessness of the company, for which they have agreed to rectify all the issues in the nearest future. The Mayor also came down harsh on all the heads of the MCC departments and urged them to concentrate on their work and do their job right, and that in the next meeting she doesn’t want to hear any complaints of MCC dept officials not doing their work right. The MCC officials agreed to their bosses advise and promised to set things right at the earliest.
