In 2 hrs over 100 Two-Wheelers Locked by Cops for Illegal Parking Opp Mak Mall

Mangaluru: In spite of many warnings and fines being slapped on riders for parking their two-wheelers illegally at places meant for pedestrian walking or for commuters waiting for the bus at bus stops etc- these shameless and ignorant riders still park their vehicles illegally- and pay the consequences of fines. One such incident has happened again in front of Mak Mall, Opposite Kankanady market, where rows of bikes got locked with wheel clamps by the police in a drive recently, which were illegal parked at place meant for commuters at the bus stop and for creating an obstruction to normal movement of traffic.

A sports shop at the Mak Mall has been having discount sale on sports items, and shoppers have been thronging this shop for the last couple of days- and those who came by two-wheelers had parked illegally in front of the Mall. Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Traffic Circle Inspector of Kadri East Police station said, “For the last two days bikes and scooters were locked with a wheel clamp or notices sent to the owners after taking photo shots of the vehicles for parking illegally, here opposite to the mall. At a time, more than 20-30 bikes were locked. Since there had been plenty of complaints from commuters about such illegal parking, we took this action immediately. The police phone in session also saw many such complaints. Hence, we have initiated the action,”.

Even though these shoppers got a very good discount at the sport shop, but unfortunately they had to shell out few extra bucks towards fine, since they had parked their two-wheelers illegally. The cops had charged these violators Rs 200-Rs 100 for illegal parking and Rs 100 for obstruction of traffic. Oh well, the discount what they got at the sports shop, they had to pay the cops as fines. “Obstruction of traffic will invite a fine of Rs 100. If parked in a no-parking zone and parked in a way that obstructs movement of traffic, the fine will be doubled,” said traffic east police inspector, who said that the drive will continue. So all you riders planning on shopping at Mak Mall, better park your two-wheelers at the designated parking area.

And the police inspector showing member of Team Mangalorean of a bike with “Media” sticker on it, parked illegally said, “When police make mistakes you people publish the news quickly- I think you should highlight this illegal parked bike in your publication without any partiality”.
