Inauguration of Sahyadri College Student Council 2017-18
Mangaluru: J R Lobo, Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Mangaluru South Constituency inaugurated the Student Council 2017-18 by Lighting the Lamp at Sahyadri College. Dr. J. V. Gorabal, Dean-Academics welcomed the gathering. Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice- Principal introduced the Council head.
J R Lobo in his inaugural address highlighted the Leadership qualities. He said that leader should be well informed, have domain expertise, should be exemplary not only in personal but also in professional life and quoted examples of Barack Obama, Narendra Modi & Mahatma Gandhi. Further he added, leaders should be updated & professional to deal with any odds that he/she may face. He emphasized that leaders should focus on serving others rather than personal gains. Above all humanities is the essential factor which has to be an inherent quality. He appreciated our institution for providing students an opportunity to exhibit their leadership skills.
Jagannath Chowta, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation thanked J R Lobo for gracing this occasion as a Chief Guest and inspiring students through his motivational words. He added, Councils are formed in order to guide students towards leading the life because we won’t remain students throughout our life but we keep learning. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, in his concluding remarks, referred to J R Lobo as a Role Model for young minds through his simplicity and humbleness. He also said that leaders should not only be self-disciplined but also empathetic to enhance the harmony in the surroundings. Respective HOD’s and teaching staff were also present during the programme.
A Student Council has a great role to play in any Educational Institution. Student Council can be a very valuable mouth-piece in order to share all the student opinions and suggestions for the progress of the entire Institution.
