Inauguration of the Centenary Year of the St. Vincent De Paul Society at Bejai Church Hall

Rev. Fr. Francis D’Souza, the Spiritual Advisor of the Mangalore Central Council, also played a pivotal role in the event by releasing the Centenary Theme. Fr. J.B. Saldanha, the Parish Priest of Bejai, formally inaugurated the centenary project, “Asro” (Shelter), by presenting a cheque to Mr. Walter Martis, the Western India Coordinator representing the National Council. This project aims to provide shelter and support to those most vulnerable in society, emphasizing the Society’s commitment to addressing pressing social issues.
A highlight of the ceremony was the heartfelt felicitation of Mr. Gilbert Pinto, a senior member of the Society, who was recognized for his 44 years of unwavering service. Reflecting on his extensive experience, Mr. Pinto shared poignant anecdotes of his journey within the Society and the lives it has touched over the decades. The citation was eloquently read by Mrs. Preetha Lobo, the Vice President of the Bejai unit.
As the program progressed, Mr. Joe Coelho, the current Central Council President, delivered a thought-provoking keynote address. He elaborated on the ambitious centenary projects, including “Shikop,” which aims to provide educational aid to 405 students from adopted families, and “Asro,” which aspires to offer shelter to 100 families. His insights underscored the Society’s proactive approach in adapting to the evolving needs of the community.
The proceedings of the day’s events were skillfully managed by Mr. Augustin Rodrigues of the Bejai unit, who ensured a coherent flow to the program.
