Inculcate Sportsman Spirit to be Successful- Ramanath Rai During Dasara Sports meet inauguration

Mangaluru: The District administration in association with DK Zilla Panchayat, Mangalore City Corporation and Youth empowerment and Sports Department jointly organized the Dasara Sports meet at the Mangala Stadium here on September 10.

The programme began with the State Anthem. Director Dept of Youth Services & Sports, Dakshina Kannada Pradeep D’Souza welcomed the gathering.

District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the programame by lighting the traditional lamp. Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza hoisted the sports flag. Minister Ramanath Rai and Mayor Kavitha Sanil declared the sports meet open by freeing the balloons in the air.

Addressing the gathering Minister Ramanath Rai said, “The district administration holds the Dasara sports meet every year to develop confidence among the athletes and to take part in the state, national and international level. Our district has its own identity and DK has produced many state and national level athletes. The participants in the sports meet should inculcate the sportsman spirit in them. The sports meet will strengthen the unity among the participants. Let this sports meet help in bringing out sports talents from Dakshina Kannada and bring laurels”.

Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza speaking on the occasion said, “By organizing Dasara sports meet, the government has given the opportunity to select athletes to take part in the state-level sports meet. Those who perform well in the district-level sports meet will be promoted to play in the state-level.”

Ivan further said, “The sports meet is not only to bag prizes but sports is our part of life. Those who have the sportsman spirit will emerge as winners. Winning and losing is the part of Sports but those who accept winning or losing are the real sportsmen. “Ivan congratulated all the participants for taking part in the Dasara Sports meet and wish them success.

Corporator Jayanti Achar, Suresh, sports officer K S Nayak and Shahul Hameed were also present.
