New Delhi, Sep 26 (IANS) Indian modern artist F.N. Souza’s untitled work topped the auction sale by a private auction house ArtDeal here on Saturday, with the hammer falling at Rs.1.70 crore.
The auction titled “Framed Sentiments”, held at Vivanta by Taj Ambassador hotel here, featured the works of masters like S.H. Raza, Souza, Jamini Roy, Pablo Picasso, M. F. Husain among others.
Souza’s oil on canvas work of a woman covered with skin of a tiger symbolizes passion and raw energy in the purest form, according to ArtDeal owner Siddhartha Tagore.
Raza’s work of concentric circles, depicting the circle of life was sold at Rs.51 lakh.
Another attraction was a ceramic bowl by Picasso, a vessel that became the muse of his artwork in 1946 ever since he visited the Madoura pottery workshop in Vallauris. This collectible fetched a bid of Rs. 8 lakh.
Husain’s “Knight Watch”, a set of three drawings got a bid of Rs.10.50 lakh, while his digital print on canvas “Gurunanak devji” received Rs.10.20 lakh.
The event also showcased photographs and digital works with sculptures in various media of wood, fibre and bronze.
