Indian Social Forum helps stranded Malathi to return Home

Riyadh: Indian Social Forum has once again extended its helping hand to an Indian expat to return back to India.

Malathi, from Udupi, came to the Wadi Dawasir which is more than 600 km away from Riyadh with a dream and an intention of earning a good livelihood for her family. She had come through an agent to work for a Hospital as Nurse, with all service benefits.

However, upon landing at Wadi Dawasir, Riyadh, Malathi was forced to work as a housemaid in the Sponsors house. In the beginning, Malathi refused to work as a maid but her Sponsor insisted her to do so, and without any option, she worked as a housemaid.

She continued to work for more than nine months, her sponsor refused to pay her salary and did not even provide her with a mobile phone to contact her family back home.

As the situation worsened, she finally, somehow contacted to her family in India and explained to them of her horrible situation in Saudi. After coming to know of the situation Malathi was facing in Saudi Arabia, her family members wanted to bring her back home. They urged Sandeep Shetty, Udupi who is working in Jeddah to help them in this regard.

Sandeep Shetty contacted the Indian Social Forum and discussed all possibilities of sending Malathi back to India.

Indian Social Forum team led by Ismail Mangalapete, Shahul Hameed Vamanjoor and Sayed Abdul Haq immediately rushed to help Malathi Naik.

First, they spoke to her on the phone and assured of helping her to fly back home. But in the meantime, Malathi ran away from her sponsor’s house and called Ismail Mangalapete, Shahul Hameed Vamanjoor for help, as Wadi Dawasir is very far from Riyadh it was very difficult to shift her to a safe location.

The Social Forum team contacted Abdul Raheem hailing from Tamil Nadu who is working in Wadi Dawasir to support Malathi in this regard. The Sponsor of Abdul Raheem agreed to take her to his house and provide her with all basic facilities.

Meanwhile, the Social Forum contacted Indian Embassy office in Riyadh to make immediate repatriation of Malathi Naik.

Finally, Social Forum handed over Malathi Naik from Wadi Dawasir to the Indian Embassy office in Riyadh.

On Saturday 3 September 2016 morning Malathi left the King Khalid International Airport Riyadh to Udupi via Bengaluru.

Malathi had no words to thank the Indian Social Forum’s help and was extremely grateful to them.

She conveyed her thanks to the team and wished that their efforts would continue in the coming days, and returned back home safely.
Indian Social Forum, Riyadh received special appreciation and thanks for its commendable services of helping a fellow Indian in the time of need.

May imaginary gods from all religions bless these brave souls for rescuing her from savages. Notice how there is no reference to local police or legal system. This shows how human rights are nonexistent in medieval cultures. In fact they could have prosecuted her for approaching and staying with another man!!! It may not be a good idea to disclose some of the names of individuals involved. What a scary society!!! The Malayalam novel ‘aadu jeevitham’ captures every bit of this horror in great detail.

It must have been a terrible experience for the poor lady. Our embassy needs to keep tab of our citizens and help them to live with dignity in a foreign land. Likewise our citizens should show loyalty to our country and flag. They also need to show respect to the country where they work. If you work in the middle east, be prepared to undergo sub optimal treatment as they are uncouth uncultured lot.
