India’s FIRST National Cardiac Emergency Conference with Cardiac Simulation ‘CECON 2018’ held at Fr Muller Medical College, Mangaluru on 10 and 11 November
Mangaluru: For the FIRST time in the history of India, cardiac simulation is used to demonstrate cardiac emergencies using cardiac manicure at the 1st National Cardiac Emergency Conference, “CECON 2018” hosted by Father Muller Medical College. The conference was inaugurated today, November 10 and will end on 11 at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru.
More than 600 representatives from all over India are attending the conference, where Eminent International and National Speakers from the field of Cardiology and Medicine are the resource persons for the various current topics. This conference is most relevant since cardiovascular disease, is the world’s number one killer. The conference will cover an array of cardiac emergencies including heart attack, stroke and other heart-related diseases.
Cardiac emergency is the critical area in the medical sciences. CECON 2018 is a unique conference where cardiac emergency management is critically analysed by the doyen in the field. Unlike regular conferences, this scientific programme is based on real-time clinical case-based discussion and cardiac simulation session for management of cardiac emergencies, postgraduate cardiac teaching and rive web-based ECG Quiz.. CEC0N has a scientific programme which would be highly useful for cardiologists, practicing physicians, critical care intensivists, emergency medicine, anesthesiologists and postgraduates in various specialties.
The inauguration of the conference took place on Saturday, November 10 at 12:15 pm at Decennial Memorial Hall, by lighting the traditional lamp by chief guest Dr S Sachhidanand, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, along with Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions who presided over the function, Fr Ajith B.Menezes, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College, Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Dr Arunachalam R, Organizing Chairman, Dr H Prabhakar, Organizing Secretary and HOD of Cardiology Dept, Fr Muller’s, Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, FMMC, and others.
Addressing the audience Chief Guest Dr S Sachhidanand said, “I am surprised that this kind of conference on a very needed topic had been planned late. But I am happy to note that the First conference on Cardiac Emergency is held at the prestigious Fr Muller institution. Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of adults. Prompt recognition and initiation of appropriate treatment can save lives during three of the most deadly cardiac emergencies: sudden cardiac death, heart failure, and acute pericarditis. Cardiac diseases are increasing day by day, and so this conference is organized at the right time to train the doctors on cardiac emergency care, which is the need of the hour”.
“When the heart ceases to beat effectively and breathing soon ceases, a person is said to have experienced sudden cardiac death (SCD). In order to meet the criteria for this diagnosis, the critical circulatory collapse must be; 1) unexpected, 2) it must relate in some manner to heart problems, and 3) it should occur with minimal warning or a complete absence of prelude symptoms. This means the event occurs proximal to any warnings, typically within one hour of the start of any type of cardiac-related symptoms. In the past, this condition was often referred to by the terms cardiac arrest or sudden cardiac arrest, perhaps due to the fact that some individuals have experienced sudden cardiac death, and lived to tell about it. Emergencies do happen at any time without any notice, and therefore health care people should be trained and ready to attend in such cases. This conference will benefit everyone participating in it. Make the best use of the Conference, and be ready to serve a person during a cardiac emergency” added Dr S Sachhidanand.
Fr Richard Coelho also spoke and was very much overwhelmed that Fr Muller Medical College is hosting this unique conference for the First time in India, which is a great moment and milestone for FMCI. He encouraged the doctors and undergraduates to make much use of the conference, and gain all the knowledge that is needed to help someone during Cardiac emergencies. Among the most alarming of the medical emergencies are those arising from acute conditions within the heart. Immediate treatment is frequently imperative. Also conferences like this one benefit a lot to get more knowledge of cardiac emergency, so that persons are ready and all set to serve the persons with Cardiac problems. Today’s conference comprises of cardiac-related talks, and everyone will be happy having gained more information.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr H Prabhakar, Organizing Secretary of the event, while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Arunachalam R, Organizing Chairman- and the programme was compered by Dr Susan D’Souza- PG in General Medicine, Dr George Varghese and Dr Shruthi R, both House Surgeons at Fr Muller’s.
