India’s Tax System is Killing People, Siddhartha’s Death Should be blamed on I-T Dept’- MLC Ivan D’souza
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Congress Bhavan-Mallikatta, Mangaluru, MLC Ivan D’souza said, “India’s Tax System, including GST, is killing the economy and many large and small scale entrepreneurs in the country. We are having a “Terrorist Act of Tax” at present which is harassing entrepreneurs and even chasing them out of the country. The Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate (ED) Officials, who harassed Cafe Coffee Day Founder Siddhartha Hegde, should be blamed and booked for culpable homicide, and Modi’s government should launch a thorough investigation into it”.
Ivan further said, “Siddhartha had provided over 50,000 jobs, and it’s sad to note that an honest and hard-working entrepreneur had to end his life due to the constant harassment of I-T and ED sleuths, who even stole his assets and properties. And due to such harassment from I-T and ED officials, many businessmen are migrating to other countries, and a bunch of them are committing suicides, just like Siddhartha. Our present Central government headed by PM Narendra Modi has failed to create a people and business-friendly environment. Due to immense political pressure on I-T and ED departments, the officials of these two agencies have no other option than to harass the entrepreneurs”.
“Due to the poor economic policies of the Central government, India has reached to the seventh place in the global GDP rankings in 2018, when it stood at the fourth place during the UPA rule. The economy is so bad that, over three lakh workers in railways, nearly 55,000 employees of BSNL have lost their jobs- and it is learnt that over two lakh BSNL employees are yet to receive their salaries. Even the automobile sales have dropped, and nearly 30 steel producing companies have shut down. So what growth are we talking about, as proclaimed by Modi. The present economic crisis shows the poor policies of the Modi rule, which has led to the present fluctuations that have affected the Indian economy”, added Ivan D’souza.
Hitting hard on Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, MLC Ivan said, “The chief minister had been plotting the downfall of the coalition government for 14 months, and now even after 10 days after assuming the CM’s post, Yediyurappa has not been able to expand his ministry.
While the 14 rebels who quit from the coalition government are stranded on the ground level on the streets in Bengaluru, the CM and his colleagues are enjoying the comforts on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha. Some of these quitters are seen eating Idlis and dosas outside the Supreme Court. Looks like CM can’t even expand his cabinet even after ten days assuming CM post. CM’s threat to cancel one lakh bogus BPL cards in each district, he his practicing vendetta politics. If CM dares to cancel the BPL cards to reduce the burden on the exchequer by Rs 2,500 crore, we will not spare his government”.
Congress representatives- Sadashiva Shetty, Ashith Pereira, Khalid Uire, Preethviraj, Pius Monteiro, and N P Manuraj were among others present during the press meet.
