Udupi: The issue of Indira canteens which are suppose to be opened in every district by the state government dominated the Udupi City Municipal Council meeting on Thursday, November 30.
Raising the issue, BJP councillor Yashpal Suvarna said that recently the Chief Minister has laid the foundation stone in Udupi for the Indira canteen. “The proposed canteen will be coming up in the CMC land. The administration which has not even asked the permission of the CMC is condemnable. How did the CMC agree to give permission for the place? ” he questioned.
Replying to the question, CMC commissioner Manjunathaiah said , “The forming of the Indira canteen issue is decided in the state cabinet. As per the decision, the Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis is the final authority to choose the place in the district. She has selected the land and sent the report to the government. The CMC should maintain electricity, water and cleaning matters and CC TV camera. But there is no need to ask CMC’s permission to start the Indira Canteen”
