Instead of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Modi should think of Common Man’s ‘Din Ki Baat’ – Vinay Kumar Sorake
Udupi: Why is Prime Minister Narendra Modi not thinking about the country’s common man’s Din Ki Baat instead of his Man Ki Baat questioned former state urban development minister and Kaup Constituency MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake. He was speaking at the Kaup and Hiriyadka Block Congress workers convention at Halima Sabju Auditorium Udyavar here on Sunday, September 24.
The Prime minister in his monthly Man Ki Baat programme speaks of all the issues in the country but forgets to speak on the matter of food of the common people in the country. The Siddaramaiah-led government had fulfilled 80% of the promises it made during the elections four years ago. “However, the Modi government has not fulfilled even 25% of the promises it made before the elections in the last three years. This is enough to state that the Karnataka government is far better than the Modi government. BJP was interested in gaining votes by dividing the people along the lines of religion.
Speaking about Kaup Constituency Sorake said that in 2013 the party leaders had given him a chance to contest from the Kaup Constituency. In 12 days of the campaign, the people of Kaup elected me as the MLA. Having trust in my performance, the chief minister had given me the cabinet ministry in his government. In my tenure, a grant of Rs 6400 crore was spent for various development works. In My 35 years of political career, I have served the people transparently and have honestly worked for the development of Udupi district. After losing the ministry, it has helped me to work in my constituency. In my tenure, CM Siddaramaiah has granted the highest funds for Kaup constituency. During my 4 tenures as MLA about Rs 1200 crores have been spent for various projects fulfilling almost of all the demands of the people. Kaup constituency consists of rural areas. All the areas were developed using government grants and such kind of development work was never done before. Keeping in mind the progress of the constituency the chief minister announced Kaup as a Taluk with a TMC. The Congress-led state government has introduced several welfare programmes for the development of the poor. The party workers should create awareness on the welfare programmes of the state government, this will help to retain the victory in the coming elections, he said.
Criticising the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, Sorake said that the MP is involved in putting baseless allegations against the Congress party and chief minister Siddaramaiah. The people of Katapadi and Kaup are suffering from unscientific work of the National Highway and our MP is busy giving communal speeches and begging for rice in Mangaluru. She should have solved these problems instead she is blaming Oscar Fernandes for the National Highway problems. She has not done anything for the district in the last 3 years, he added.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary PC Vishnunath said that, while the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the state had delivered on its poll promises, the NDA government at the Centre had failed on this count.
Pointing at the many welfare programmes rolled out by the Congress government, Siddaramaiah implemented many pro-people programmes based on the poll promises made. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cheated the people as he has not delivered on his poll promises. Failure to get black money stashed abroad and distribute it among the people here is one among the many promises.
PM Narendra Modi is trying to rule by defying the norms of democracy. When we look at the four years of Siddaramaiah’s rule and three years of Modi’s rule, we can clearly notice who has delivered on the poll assurances and this should be conveyed to the people. Congress workers should engage the public in a dialogue on the achievements of the Congress government in comparison with that of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. The party workers should work hard to ensure the victory of the Congress party in the upcoming assembly elections, he added.
Former Chief Minister and Chikkballapur MP Veerappa Moily said that the Congress-ruled Karnataka government will outrun the opposition with its best performance compared to many other BJP ruled State governments in the country. The policies and programmes of the Karnataka government are well received by all sections of the society and people were ‘very happy’.
He blamed the Narendra Modi-led government in the centre over the fall in GDP growth to a 3-year low to 5.7% – the slowest pace recorded since the NDA government assumed office – according to the RBI. In reality, the GDP growth has slipped to 3.7 %, he said.
After the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes, the economy of the country has been pushed to a dangerous level. To hide the slip in GDP growth, a new yardstick has been used to measure the GDP growth, he criticised.
Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes, district minister in-charge Pramod Madhwaraj and Former Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary also spoke on the occasion.
KPCC secretary Basavaraj, G A Bava, Congress leaders Naveenchandra Shetty, Wilson Rodrigues, Melwin D’souza, Harish Kini, Abdul Aziz, Vishwas Ameen, Christen D’Almeida, M A Gafoor, Kaup Divakar Shetty and others were also present.
