Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight to be held from June 12 to 24

Udupi: An Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight will be held in the district from June 12 to 24. Children below five years of age mostly suffer from diarrhoea said Additional Deputy Commissioner Anuradha G.

 Speaking at a press meet held at the DC office on Friday, June 9, ADC Anuradha said that the programme is aimed at preventing diarrhoeal deaths which is one of the most common causes of death among children. Oral rehydration solution (ORS) will help in checking diarrhoea and zinc tablets will help in checking deaths. Asha workers will distribute oral rehydration solution packets to each household that has children aged below five. In addition, they will also demonstrate the use of ORS. Health workers will also visit villages. Zinc tablet will also give strength to the child, she added.

‘Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight’ (IDCF) under which various activities has been planned including visits by ASHA workers to all such households which have children under the age of five. They will explain its benefits. The importance of this activity is that ORS will be available in the household when needed at the time of diarrhoea. Secondly, all health facilities shall have ORS corners which shall continuously demonstrate the way to prepare ORS mixture.

The intensified community awareness campaigns on hygiene and promotion of ORS and Zinc therapy will be conducted at the district and taluk levels, she added.

District health officer Rohini was also present.
