More interested in doing performance-centric roles: Sarah

Chennai, Aug 7 (IANS) Actress Sarah George, who will be seen in a crucial role in this week’s Tamil release “Taramani”, says she is more interested in accepting performance-oriented roles than waiting to become a lead character.

“I would like to do the kind of roles Nawazuddin (Siddiqui) is doing or what Lena is doing in Malayalam industry. I’m more interested in doing strong character roles with good scope for performance and not necessarily wait for heroine roles,” Sarah told IANS.

In “Taramani”, slated for release on Friday, she plays Andrea’s friend, a girl from Palghat district in Kerala.

“I play the fiddle to the main lead. It’s a very strong character and the story revolves around Andrea and me. The film takes a look at modern-day relationships and how love is perceived in this age. It’s not a love story,” she said, pointing that the film will connect with youngsters.

Directed by Ram, the film is having a delayed release after two years.

“I had signed ‘Taramani’ nearly three years ago. It’s been worth the wait. It’s the best thing to have happened to me. I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher than Ram. He made me an actor,” she said.

Born in Kerala and brought up in Bahrain, Sarah used to be a model before venturing into acting.

She has an interesting line up of films.

“In my second and third film, I have played bigger and meatier roles. It’s important that the roles I do stay with audiences. I have finished a Tamil film called ‘Indha Nilai Maruma’. In addition to that I have signed a Malayalam film, in Shibu Thameens production, titled ‘Rosa Poo’, in which I play a strong character,” she said.
