International Powerlifter Jackson D’Souza releases poster of ‘YOULYMPICS-2019’
Udupi: Jackson D’Souza, International Powerlifter and ICYM member of the Diocese released the official poster of the “YOULYMPICS-2019” to be organized by ICYM Udupi Diocese central council.
The daylong Sports and athletic event will be held on Sunday, 06 October 2019 at the Milagres Cathedral grounds, Kallianpur.
The YOULYMPICS i.e Youth Olympics is a series of team sports and athletic events. The track and field events include 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mixed relay, long jump, high jump, shotput and discus throw both for men and women.
Team sports include Volleyball for men, throwball for women, badminton men and women doubles, kabaddi and tug-of-war.
Earlier in September Deanery level (taluk level) YOULYMPICS were conducted in the five Deaneries of the Udupi Diocese. The winners and runners of each team games at the Deanery level will compete at the Udupi Diocese level (District level) in YOULYMPICS 2019.
The athletics and tug of war will be open to all units of ICYM Udupi Diocese. The Youlympics is restricted to a category of 18 to 28 years of age.
The official poster of YOULYMPICS 2019, a Udupi Diocesan sport event has the picture of Pope Francis encouraging Youth towards sports activities as he says, “Sports strengthens friendships, brings out best of body and mind!”
The ICYM Udupi Diocese Council has also included the images of three of its sports sensation namely Anup D’Costa, International Volleyball Player, Ekalavya Award Winner, KOA and Kempe Gowda award holder.
Raison Rebello, International Volleyball Player and Jackson D’Souza, International Powerlifter and the ‘Strongman’ of Mangalore University. The three sports sensations are expected to torch the YOULYMPICS 2019 Cauldron during the inaugural of the event.
The ICYM Udupi Diocese has crafted a number of systematic youth-oriented programmes in this “YEAR of YOUTH 2019” out of which YOULYMPICS 2019 is set to strengthen the unity of ICYM by team and individual sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
MLA of Udupi Constituency, Raghupati Bhat, Ex-MLA and District in-charge Minister of Udupi, Pramodh Madwaraj, MLC and Ex-Cabinet Secretary to CM, Ivan D’Souza are expected to take part in the programme in the esteemed presence of Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi and Msgr Baptist Menezes in the inaugural and valedictory programmes.
Dion D’Souza, President – ICYM Udupi Diocese, Animator Leslie Arouza and a number of ICYM leaders of the Diocese were present for the poster release ceremony.
