International Skill Exchange Programme with 2 Guests from Italy held at St Aloysius ITI

Mangaluru: International Skill Exchange Programme was organised in St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute on 3rd February 2018. The focus of the programme was on empowering girls through skill training and making them competent. Alberto Passani and Ms silvana Rizzi were the special guests from Italy. The programme began with a prayer song. A beautiful and traditional welcome dance was performed to set the tone for the programme. Robin Vas- Junior Training Officer welcomed the gathering on behalf of the institution. The dignitaries were introduced to the students by Rev Dr Leo D’souza SJ- former Director of the institution.

Fr Leo Sj in his speech said, “Alberto Passani is a well-known artist in Italy because of his beautiful paintings. Ms Sivana Rizzi is the grand-niece of Br Antonio Moscheni who had painted the world famous paintings in St Aloysius Chapel. Both of them are actively involved in social service works, especially for the poor. On their visit to India every year, they make it a point to visit Aloysian Boys Home, an orphanage run by St Aloysius Institution Management and spend time with them.” Present Director of the institution Fr Eric Mathias SJ felicitated the guests with a shawl, peta and memento.

Talking to the students, Italian visitor Ms Rizzi said, “It is indeed a great experience to be associated with St Aloysius ITI in empowering rural youth, especially girls. Apart from Sewing technology which is mainly taken up by girls, the institution has recently started a plumber course for ladies. The quality of training in this institution is superior and we are confident the girls who take up this course would be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with boys. The world has a tremendous opportunity for the girls in the technical field. Girls must make use of the opportunity being presented by this institution and become self-reliant.”

Vincent Mendonsa- Principal, Romius Dsouza- Training Officer and Roshan Dsouza- Vice principal were also present for the occasion. The formal function ended with a cultural extravaganza performed by the students as part of the programme. . Shreyas – a first-year student, delivered the vote of thanks. Adolf Rodrigues, a student of MMV trade conducted the programme.

The dignitaries also visited the newly inaugurated sani-tech lab which was constructed and donated by M/S Jaquar & Co Ltd and expressed their appreciation. The sani-tech lab is equipped with modern sanitary fitments. Under the training tie-up with M/s Jaquar & Co Ltd, the institution is offering sanitary technology course for ladies, which is the first of its kind in the whole of Karnataka.
