International Yoga Day celebration draws Enthusiastic Response in Udupi District
Udupi: The Ayush department along with Udupi district administration celebrated the fourth International Yoga Day on June 21 at the District Indoor Soccer. Yoga sessions were conducted, in which students and the public along with Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, Additional DC Anuradha, ZP CEO Shivananda Kapashi, CMC Commissioner Janardhan, performed various ‘Asanas’.
A qualified yoga instructor led the Yoga sessions with various asanas such as the Trikonasana, Padahastasana, Kati Chakrasana, Vrikshasana, Shashakasana, Bhujangasana, Vajrasana, Wakrasana, Swasasana Nadi Shodhan, Kapal Bhati and Bhramari, Anulom Vilom and Shitali Pranayam.
Speaking to mediapersons, ZP CEO Shivandanda Kapashi said, “Yoga provides mental and physical strength to people. It enables us to live a healthy life.” Kapashi urged children to practice Yoga as it will “help create overall harmony of body and mind.”
Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said, “Yoga is essential for inner and physical growth. It enhances mental and physical well-being.” She motivated the students to make Yoga an important part of their daily routine to stay fit and healthy.
Guinness world record holder in Yoga, Tanushree Pithordi also performed various Yoga asanas on the occasion. On behalf of the district administration, Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu honoured Tanushree.
Speaking on the occasion, Dinakar Babu said that Yoga provides physical and mental well-being of the people and that is why it is gaining popularity both in the country as well as abroad. “Yoga is not a religion but a way of living, that aims for a healthy mind in a healthy body. It aims to achieve this through a series of physical and mental exercises,” he said.
