iPhone 8-A Perfect Wedding Gift for Daughter! Indian Dad Flies to Singapore to buy it?

Mangaluru: When I read the news of an Indian businessman, Amin Ahmed Dholiya, aged 43, who flew all the way from India to Singapore and lined up for 13 hours overnight outside an Apple store to buy the latest iPhone 8 Plus as a wedding gift for his daughter, it brought back memories when I stood in the line/queue from 2 am – 11 am at Best Buy Electronics store in Chicago suburbs-USA on 29 June 2007, when the FIRST iPhone was launched- and I feel proud to say that even after 10 years, I still own that iPhone, and it is still in working condition, with no problems whatsoever! (Read: http://www.mangalorean.com/proud-still-first-iphone-bought-us-29-june-2007/). This shows that one who is in love with iPhone will go beyond their limits-travel far or stay in the queue to buy their favorite Apple phone.

It is a very interesting tale explaining what a father did to buy iPhone 8 Plus for his daughter. Not only he flew so many miles but he queued up for 13 hours overnight outside an Apple store there to buy the latest iPhone as a wedding gift for his daughter. Amin Ahmed Dholiya was the first in the queue outside the Apple store on Orchard Road-Singapore, where he arrived around 7 pm to get his hands on the iPhone 8 Plus which hit the store shelves on Saturday, 23 September. As per sources, when the store opened at 8 am on that day, there were some 200 people, including many foreigners, in the queue. After he was lucky to buy, Amin Ahmed Dholiya returned home on Sunday. It is learnt that before he flew to Singapore he had said, “I will buy two (phones), one for my other daughter (as well). This is my first-time queueing overnight for something. I am feeling good now but it will be hard to stand all night”. And like he said, he did buy two iPhones.

The new iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus were the first major products launched at the store since it opened in May. “Foreigners “have a bigger reason to queue up and buy” at the Apple store here because the new devices have not yet been launched in their countries, and many of them may have to buy the phones without contract even when the phones are launched back home,” according to Kiranjeet Kaur, a senior research manager for client devices at market research firm IDC Asia-Pacific. Apple had on September 12 unveiled the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. It is also learnt that Singapore consumers will generally prefer to get the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus at a subsidised price with a telco contract- and many customers from the three Singapore telcos avoided queuing for too long as they could book time slots to collect their new iPhones elsewhere.
