Kolkata, Aug 27 (IANS) The Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to have two new teams in the next edition, and the cash-rich tourney could be a 10 team affair from 2018 onwards, an IPL governing council member said here on Thursday.

The council, which met on Thursday evening at a city five star hotel, made twin recommendations to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s working committee that holds a crucial sitting on Friday here.

The suggestions were made in the backdrop of the Justice Lodha committee earlier this year recommending a two year ban on two teams – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) – from the tournament with regard to the spot fixing and betting scandal that rocked the cash-rich Twenty20 tournament in 2013.

“We have suggested to the working committee to look for two new teams for the next edition and after two years when the ban is lifted from CSK and Rajasthan Royals it (the league) can be made into a 10-team affair,” said the governing council member who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The IPL governing council meeting here was a hush- hush affair with no media person being allowed in the hotel itself.
