IPS Annamalai’s Resignation Letter – Full Transcript

To all my friends and well-wishers,

Greetings to you. This is to apprise you in light of the recent news reports concerning my imminent resignation. Today, on May 28th, 2019 I had submitted my resignation from the Indian Police Service. It might take some time for the official process to be over. I’m jumping the gun now as I wanted to set straight all of the speculations going around. I had taken this decision after a long thoughtful six months. It’s been nine years for me into the service and I had lived every moment of my Kakhi. The sense of pride a Kakhi brings is unparalleled and the camaraderie I shared with all my fellow colleagues will never be forgotten. In a sense I believe that the job of a policeman is the closest to God. It’s also true that a high-pressure job like this comes with its own shortcomings. I had missed too many a functions to count, couldn’t be there for people who stood with me during my time of need, felt a bit stifled at times, couldn’t be outspoken at times when I wanted to.

Last year my visit to Kailash Manasarovar was an eye opener as it helped me to see my priorities in life better. Madhukar Shetty sir’s death in a way made me re-examine my own life. All good things had to come to an end and I have decided now my time in Kakhi is done. I planned and wanted to leave post the Lok Sabha elections as I didn’t want to inconvenience this Govt just before the elections by resigning. If my resignation has caused any anguish for you, my sincere apologies for that. I honestly believe I have to do this now. It’s been an emotional time for me and my best friend who happens to be my wife as well helped to smoothen it out.

What next?

For people who are speculating what next for me. I’m too small a man to have lofty ambitions. I just wanted to take some time out and enjoy those small things in life which I had missed out, be a good father to my son – who deserves every bit of my lime as he is fast growing up, get into farming back home and see whether my sheep still listens to me as I’m no more a cop now. Life itself is too big an opportunity to be talking of opportunities for a mortal like me.

I’ll be missing all of the wonderful people who had walked the path of justice with me in Karkala, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Bangalore. Many of you moulded an imperfect me to an acceptable version, will be missing the guidance of my senior colleagues who taught me everything and my junior colleagues who are .r smarter and principled than rm. Without an iota of doubt, I’ll be missing all of my constables and other junior ranks, I lived for them and strived to make their life better which they richly deserve.

I hope I served all of you with dignity and pride. In case if I had hurt any of you, at any time, my apologies for that as I’m only human. I will be missing all of you and importantly your love, that’s for sure. With loads of love – K. Annamalai
