IRCS honours Young blood donors on World Blood Donor Day

Udupi: The Indian Red Cross Society Udupi district branch on Wednesday, June 14, felicitated young blood donors who have been actively responding the call of those in need and helping save lives. The event was organised to observe World Blood Donor Day.

The programme was inaugurated by Latha, Senior Civil Judge and member secretary district legal service authority Udupi by lighting the lamp.

In her inaugural message, Latha said that blood donation is a noble cause and every blood donor is essentially a life saver. Blood donation helps save precious human lives. People should be made aware and motivated to voluntarily donate blood since most of the people hesitate in this regard and to create awareness is the need of the hour. Donation of blood holds much significance as one unit of blood can save three lives. There is a misconception that blood donation has an adverse impact on the health of donors.

We need to increase awareness on voluntary donation of blood, particularly among the youth. Donating blood is very safe and it helps save the lives of many others. A healthy person could donate blood once every 59 days and it would not result in any complications. The donation made without expecting any returns in the best donation ever and blood donation could save lives, she added.
