IT raids on D K Shivakumar an attempt to Destroy Democracy – M A Gafoor
Udupi: “Income Tax raid on Power Minister D K Shivakumar is an attempt to destroy democracy”, said the Chairman of Minorities Development Corporation M A Gafoor. He was speaking at a press meet held at the Udupi Press Club here on August 03.
Addressing the mediapersons Gafoor said, “National Investigation Agencies are utilised for political gains by P M Narendra Modi, it reflects the mindset of the BJP to destroy democracy in the country. The BJP’s obsession for power is reflected in the IT raid on Power Minister D K Shivakumar”.
Gafoor further said, “D K Shivakumar has been targeted for political reasons. The Income Tax Department has been utilised to harass D K Shivakumar. The Congress party condemns the deputation of CRPF during the IT raids. The IT department has the authority to raid but the raid on D K Shivakumar is politically motivated since Shivakumar is hosting the stay of 45 Congress legislators from Gujarat”.
Gafoor also said, “BJP is known for Operation Kamala, and it has now intensified its efforts to win the Rajya Sabha Elections in Gujarat. Horse-trading has been witnessed in Gujarat, it is clearly evident that PM Narendra Modi is indirectly influencing corruption. When communal riots were very high in Gujarat, Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had sent paramilitary forces to Gujarat. At that time the Gujarat CM Narendra Modi had rejected the entry of paramilitary forces into Gujarat to control communal violence. Prime Minister Modi owes an explanation to his efforts to murder democracy in the country. The Congress party will reach out to the people against the efforts made by BJP to destroy democracy”.
When asked about the vandalization of the Income Tax Department in Mangaluru during the protest Gafoor said that it is not correct, we believe in peaceful protest. Our protests should be held in a peaceful manner.
District Congress IT Cell President Vishwas Shetty said that D K Shivakumar has been promptly paying taxes, the IT department should also raid BJP President Amith Shah for the increase of rupees 300 crores in his assets. The raid should also be conducted on former Minister Janardhan Reddy for the massive expenditure on his daughter’s wedding. If PM Modi continues to utilise the central machinery for destroying democracy, people will teach him a good lesson in the next elections.
District Youth Congress General Secretary Vignesh Kini said that the Siddaramaiah led Congress government in the State has effectively worked for the people by promoting welfare in the state. The BJP is finding it difficult to digest the development promoted in the state for the same reason it is diverting the minds of the people to other issues by launching IT raids. For winning a seat in Gujarat Modi and Shah are involved in horse trading, he added.
District Youth Congress president Raghavendra Shetty Karje and Udupi Block IT cell president Neeraj Patel were also present.
