‘It’s Not Right If I tell our People Not to Drink Goa Liquor because it has Less percentage of Alcohol’ – Minister U T Khader

Mangaluru: Referring to the ban imposed by Goa government on importing fish from other south Indian states, including Karnataka for six months, District-in-charge Minister U T Khader briefing the media persons during a press meet held at Circuit House said, “Do you think it will be right on my part to tell our people to stop drinking Goa liquor since the percentage of alcohol is less. Similarly without confirming with the Health Officials that formalin is present in fish shipped from Karnataka, imposing a ban on our supply of fish to Goa by the Goa Government is wrong. Due to this fisherman from Karnataka, have been suffering huge losses for the last few days. Goa is totally dependent on Karnataka, from milk to vegetables to grocery and other daily commodities. However, we are making negotiations with the Goa ministers and will be meeting the Goa Fisheries minister soon to settle this issue at the earliest”.

“We have been seeing lots of mobile/TV frequency towers coming up on top of buildings or in plain remote areas, without getting prior permission from the concerned departments. When the owner gets a licence approved for the building, there is nothing mentioned about installing a mobile or TV frequency tower on the terrace. But in case they decide to erect a mobile tower later after building plan is approved, they should make suitable changes to the plan. Therefore we will be implementing a policy, which is drafted and pretty soon it will be enforced. State Govt. policy stipulates safe distance between towers and residences, and monitoring of radiation levels. We have recognized the danger posed by radiation from mobile towers and have come out with a comprehensive guideline to monitor the radiation. This policy once approved will apply to all existing and proposed telecommunication sites and base stations installed in any area.

“Actually, before installing mobile towers, the service provider will have to obtain site clearance from the DoT’s Standing Advisory Committee on Frequency Allocation (SACFA) for the point of interference of wireless users, aviation hazards and obstruction to microwave links, the policy states. But no one is following the guidelines. Citizen groups have been protesting the lack of regulations governing mobile towers, claiming them to be hazardous and impacting lives. The policy has been framed keeping in mind the DoT directives in this regards. The service provider will be liable for penal action by this cell if the new guidelines are violated. It could also lead to the service provider’s operations being shut down” added minister Khader.

“Revenue Adalat has brought a ray of hope to many property owners in DK. With DC putting lots of personal interest in this regard, people are getting their property issues resolved. A fast-paced redressal system for property related issues saw nearly 50 of the 80 grievances redressed by the district administration yesterday, where people didn’t have to run from pillar to post to get their property issues rectified,” said U T Khader.
